Forty-plenty years ago I came up with the brilliant term "bass-ackwards." I crowed about my cleverness, construing opportunity to impress with my bit of wit.
A few years ago, I came upon the term "back-asswards." Close, but not quite as clever.
I Googled it just now: 25,400 hits.
For the heck of it, I'll Google "bass-ackwards" ...
... 271,000 hits.
... Date of origin
... est.1955-1960
BUSTED!
To salvage my pride, I've come up with this wicked twist on a tired (not-so) truism:
Absence makes the hard grow longer.
Goose eggs per Google!
Let this posting serve as proof: you heard it here first!
And, likely, last: it's not nearly as ingenious as the one I didn't invent.
