Ciao !
Love for one's country we all feel.
Pride and respect for our leaders that run the country is dwindling fast instead.
From what I have read and seen in videos America does not take care of its veterans very well.
Too many don't get the psychological support they desperately need once back home and end up jobless, as druggies living on the streets.
There is much more to say about the shortcomings of our leaders but I don't want to make every post I write a rant.
I'll just say : our leaders are not focused on the needs of the nation that is struggling to pay bills and put food on the table.

Thanks Tempeste. As much as my poem was for National Anthem Day, it is also about the pride I have for the way I was raised with respect for our flag and people who served.
I tried to stay away from the politics so only touched about praying for the government, and kept it on a positive side.
As far as our veterans, I don't think we can believe everything we hear. All I know is that everyone I know who is a veteran has been treated great. My dad got everything he needed and when he could no longer stay at home, he went to live at the VA Hospital and was quite happy.
I can't imagine why it wouldn't be nation wide like that. My dad's psychological problems were met as he was a 15 year old boy who lied his way into the Navy during WWII to help his newly widowed mother feed 8 kids. So not sure my 16 year old grandsons could handle that, and shouldn't have to.
We also have here some that joined the service and quit because they were too lazy to work and thought the service would be an easy out. Then when they got out, they thought they were owed something like welfare. Yet they had never seen a day of fighting. I am not saying that what you heard isn't true, but I know around here that is what I know. I am sure that some fall among the cracks and that is sad when that happens, but I haven't even heard of it heard.
I agree with all you say about our leaders though. Our current president is the biggest loser and has done the most damage to our society that w have ever known. He is no better than his son.
I do thank you and I appreciate your thorough review, as it was nice talking to you about these issues. Thanks again, dear friend. Debi

Sorry for the late reply , I?m glad that your father received the help he needed.
Now one should experience a war and certain not one as young as 15. It?s a miracle your father came back alive.
My mother was born in The Hague , Holland , she was 5 when the war began and 10 when it finished.
I read that those that fought in the Vietnam war were mistreated by the public and the government did not take care of the veterans.
I just read that in March 2023 there were 630,000 homeless people in the USA 67,495 were veterans.
Of these 56% are African Americans and Hispanic.
You are the first person I have met here that admits Biden and his administration has brought ruin to America.
I totally agree. ☹️
Thanks for sharing your views with me
Take care ! 🍀

The red, white, and blue flag is a wonderful tradition for our country. It stands for the pursuit of happiness and freedom. "The Star-Spangled Banner" is the national anthem of the United States. Your poem is wonderfully written.

Hi Rosemary, my dear friend! I thank you with all my heart for these kind comments. I appreciate knowing there are others who feel the same way about our country, regardless of how we feel about the way it is run.

I remember saying the pledge of allegiance in school and I had the job of folding the flag once. The patriotism in your words needs to return. Your heart felt words show the respect for our country that is much needed in today's world.

I too respect the flag and most of what it stands for. I am troubled by images of white policemen snatching flags away from black school children who were protesting being denied the freedoms that flag is supposed to guarantee. The history of this country is a troubled one, uplifting as well as heartbreaking. I like your poem, please keep writing.

Hi Nomi, yes, I agree about how awful that is that the cops would do that. But as my dad used to say there are good and bad with all races.

It should be noted that the time I spoke of took place in our past. I daresay that no policeman would dare be seen doing something so wrong in modern times.

I'm thankful every day to be an American and for the opportunity to live in the United States of America, the greatest country in the world. And for those like you who join me with a deep love of our country. Thanks for sharing.

What a stirring poem, Debi!! I loved every line of it. After 911, there was so much attention given to patriotism, and now, you hardly hear anything. It was beautiful and brought more than one tear to my eyes.
I loved the musical pieces you included as well. You've clearly spent a lot of time on this poem. Thanks for sharing it.
Much love,
Rhonda

It's nice to know I am not the only one who still loves their country. (and yet I do know better)

Your poem was touching, in as much as it came unprompted, really. It was from your heart!
Much, much love,

That's great that you feel so proud of your country, and so it should be. I just hope it will stay that after the next election. Don't forget that I'm half American. I'm listening to Lee Greenwood. I love that song. Ullaxcx

Hi Ulla,my sweet friend and thank you with all my heart for these kind comments for my USA poem. Thank you for your comments too about our country. Yes, I am in agreement about that, but maybe not for the same reasons. I believe our country went completely backwards with the president we have now. However, I haven't found a politician yet I trust. LOL..
Thanks again, my very very dear friend. Lotsa Love, Debi

It's my favorite part of a sporting show. Hearing the National Anthem. I love the words, the dramatic buildup to the last line. Which, miraculously still holds up. Home of the brave. This was very inspiring. Gretchen

Like you, my young classes began with standing for the Pledge of Allegiance and then the National Anthem. After that, the Bible was read, and our school day began.
I'm a little older than you, and remember being in first grade when "Air Raids" took place. Loud outside sirens went off, window shades were drawn and lights put out. All the children were ushered to the hallway where they sat on the floor. Teachers explained that America had never been bombed because it was strong and we didn't have to be afraid. We learned and sang all the patriotic songs and were told our flag represented all the states, and our freedom. I lived in Philadelphia where the Liberty Bell resides and the house of Betsy Ross, who made the first American Flag. Our class visited both.
Sorry for writing a novel, but your poem brought back all those memories and feelings of pride.

Sounds like you, too, have some awesome memories that explain your love for your country. How special to live in Philadelphia. I cannot imagine how cool that would be. And no I don't remember the air strikes but I do remember the sonic booms. Those were cool. LOL
Thanks again, my very dear friend. Lotsa Love, Debi

Thank you for sharing this with us. Yes, I love my country, although I'm disgusted with what it's turned into. I do hope we return back to patriotism. Wonderful job.
