I actually thought you were going to say how proud you were of Stephen for acknowledging your pregnancy and dissuading you from putting yourself at risk. Boys growing up are wonderful aren't they? They can be so prudish but, when it comes to it, I bet he would have done anything to defend you. Thanks for sharing, Barbara. Debbie

That was quite an experience, Barb. When I was young, about four or five, I witnessed an event between a father and child that will stay with me for the rest of my life.

Sometimes I think parents need a license to raise a child, especially the ones who go "overboard" and the ones who "don't even care." I would have been furious. I too got chills as I read the story.

This is an excellent story. I can understand kids being embarrassed about their mom being pregnant. I can remember my kids not wanting to seen with me. They were embarrassed because there were four of them. Three were very near the same age but the last one was 10 years behind. I would have furious with the man for hitting the child too, but it wasn't unusual to see parents slapping their kids in public in the 50s.

Thanks for sharing this memory with us. I had a daughter and tried to instill respect in her, and I would've done the some had I a boy. That memory would also have stuck with me.

There are parents that go too far and then there are the ones that definitely don't go far enough on the avenue of child discipline... and BOTH can ruin events for the rest of us. Sigh. Thanx for sharing, my lady! ;) Yvette
