What a beautiful tribute to your dad! He sounds like a very wise and wonderful man who brought you up just right. You should be proud of your father and the rare and unique bond you had together,

I am definitely so grateful to have been given a father so good and honorable. Thank you for these very kind words about him, June. They mean the world. xoxo

This poem, Proud to be His Daughter, reminds the readers of what a good parent can do to send his/her kids out into the world with the right attitude and drive to complete everything undertaken. Thanks, Dad!

You are EXACTLY right, Bill. Thanks, Dad is right!! You always "get" what I'm saying with my posts. I consider that a lovely luxury you bestow each time. xoxo

Wow, what a tribute, Rache. It's awesome you had such a great relationship with you dad. I never knew my biological father but my step-dad was a great guy all my life as well. I wish you the best of luck in the contest with this smooth flowing piece.
For the author notes, my dad was in a band when I was young and my mom still plays her keyboard. My father passed a couple years ago and my mom is getting dangerously close as well. She still loves playing her gospel songs though.
Again, your dad sounds like he was a great guy.
I'm sure you still do make him proud, Rache. Excellent piece, well deserving of the front spot.

I'm glad that you had a wonderful relationship with your dad, and I'm sorry he passed. It's amazing that your mom is still playing her keyboard, though!! Go her! (We musicians do NOT know the words "Enough, already!!") I love that you shared these vignettes about them.
Thanks for the vote of confidence and well-wishes for the contest. You know I always take your words to heart because you're authentic and don't soft soap ever (which I love). Thanks for the extra sparklers, too. xoxox

Fabulous poem, Rachelle. You so perfectly captured the essence of your relationship with your father in a very charming and well composed way.
I loved how you ended it with the ironic "But one part is too loud: The silence reigning since your death." followed by the wistful "(Do I still make you proud?)" What a perfect ending.
Your rhyme and meter were spot on, making this a very pleasant sounding poem to read. Really well done.

Coming from a masterful poet like you, these words are especially comforting to read. Thank you for always being generous with me, both in words and in ratings. It means so much to me. xoxox

Being a musical person, it's easy for you to hear the rhythm and know when you're keeping the meter.
Let me ask you a few questions, Rachelle:
1) Are you familiar with poetic term metric foot, and do you know the names for the different metric feet (like iamb, trochee, and amphibrach)?
2) Do you know the names for the different line types like tetrameter and pentameter?
3) When you write a metered poem, do you think about counting syllables or metric feet?
I've written an essay about that last question, which I'm not planning to post here, but I'm curious about your answer and if you'd like me to share it with you?

I vaguely remember hearing those words from English Lit classes, but, no, I am not familiar with their meanings. I mostly count syllables when I'm creating Japanese poetry, because it's required for that. For English poetry, I mostly use my musical training and "feel" the beats and accents. I would love to receive your post about it all. Knowledge is power, after all. Thank you!! xoxo

Because I find you so interesting, I love to read your posts that reveal more about yourself. This time I discover you through your father. I know that my father loved me, but he never attended a single recital or show that I was in. I am jealous of your relationship with your dad. I love that he wanted to take you to all your lessons, just to spend time with you. I bet your mother was jealous.
Your rhythm is good and your rhymes are perfect. You should be proud of this piece.

It's true that my mother and I had a very contentious relationship. She was a vicious person. I never, though, until I read your comment here, imagined that it was steeped in jealousy of the relationship I had with my father, but my Little Voice whispered, "Debbie's completely right." Once again, the fact that "it's never too late to learn something" rears up! Thank you for fueling today's epiphany!
I'm sorry that you dad didn't show up for your important occasions. It doesn't seem to have made you harsh, though, at least. You're as warm kind and encouraging as Life gets.
Thank you for yet another delightful review. I always love to hear from you. xoxo

My cousin had a mother who was jealous of her relationship with her dad. I just can't imagine jealousy within a family. Your words contentious and vicious make me so sad.

Well, they did add to my pluck, though...

I'm so sad to discover I don't have six stars left for this exceptional piece of writing. Everything about this poem is as nearly perfect as poetry gets. Not only do I love this beautiful poem, I now love your dad! What a wonderful man and how blessed are we who have fathers like this. Thanks for sharing him. MM

Your warm and heartwarming words are more than plenty, trust me on that one, Adonna! Thank you for the compliments about the poem itself and also your wisdom about us who have fathers like this understanding the importance of them. I appreciate all you've said here. Thank you for the hug this morning. xoxo

Actually, I'm sixty-eight, but I love you for that moment of youth you bestowed...
My daughter's dad was an almighty buck-chaser, so I feel your pain. xoxo

Very nice image and nice presentation, Rachelle. Your notes are appreciated. I'm sorry for the loss of your father. He sounds like a wonderful dad. You wrote a good tribute for him, and I think he is appreciating it.
Very good imagery and rhyme. A good image with "ginger genes." You do a good job showing some of the qualities you each had in common. A very good verse about "the greatest words he ever spoke." A very good concluding verse about treasuring him, but that contrasts with the silence since his death. I think your father would have a positive answer for your question.

This is a wonderful tribute to your father. You are so lucky to have him as your guide in life and I'm sure he is smiling down on you. It's beautiful that you have such great memories. Your poem is rhymed beautifully with strong meter.
