Daddy Mouse has made something special
Daddy Mouse went down to his shed,
While Mummy Mouse was still in her bed.
Today is her Birthday; he'd made a surprise,
He'd get it before she could open her eyes.
Inside the shed he rummaged about
Then opened a crate and pulled something out.
He stood back and smiled, pleased as could be,
Now he couldn't wait for Mummy to see.
He took out a duster, to polish the wood
With bees wax to shine it and make it look good.
He rubbed and he rubbed till it sparkled so bright,
Then back in the crate, he packed it in tight.
Back in the house, he woke up his boys,
And whispered, 'Get up, and don't make a noise.
I want you to help me while Mummy's in bed,
To bring in her present - it's out in the shed.
For breakfast then, we'll give her a treat,
That tasty strong cheese she so loves to eat.'
They raced up the stairs, with a laugh and a squeak,
And jumped on poor Mummy, who let out a shriek!
'What's going on?' She cried in surprise,
As they tugged her and answered, 'It's time now to rise.
Come down to the kitchen, your breakfast is laid,
And then you can see what Daddy has made.'
Daddy gave Mummy a nice cup of tea,
As they sang, 'Happy Birthday,' a little off key!
Mummy's eyes sparkled; she was having such fun,
And she opened the card; it was signed by each one.
'How clever you are, it's the best one I've had.'
And the boys looked so proud, and said they were glad.
At last it was time, she could no longer wait,
And went over quickly and stood by the crate.
Over her shoulder, she glanced at her men
Who were holding their breath; then she turned back again.
She pulled off the paper and opened the top,
Then peeped inside to see what she'd got.
She gasped, she squealed, and then closed her eyes tight,
Was she just dreaming, or was it her sight?
Did she need glasses? She must look once more,
Just to confirm, it was what she saw.
It was, she was right; then she jumped in the air,
'My goodness, you've made me my own rocking chair!'
