Observation in town

Milwaukee Avenue

by Jewell Hermann

Cast iron beneath
Croissant taste and texture linger on my tongue

Mail carrier walking porch to porch
Plane, many passengers carried above

Cannoli in hand

Between the sidewalks, grass greener than the trees, most which have not sprung forth leaves

Old couple cycle along, enjoying their day
Past houses; green, orange, and gray shingles, keep snow and rain away

Kombucha sipped, cane sugar contained

Courier strolling, parcel in hand
By gables of house old, scrollwork adorns

Beneath loose raincoat ears cold

Tulips blooming pink, yellow, and red

As the world whirls around gleaming and crashing,
clinging and clanging
singing and swimming
Make sure to place yourself within it.
