What an adventure. Life is sure funny that way, isn't it? I love the pacing of the story and the way you portrayed all of the nuances of the story. Well done.

This was such fun to read. I am still chuckling about the conversation with the 'polite' officer. I could almost hear the neighbors on the curb mumbling about the 'dotty woman' who drove over the fire hose. Very well constructed and the dialog kept my interest the entire time. Very well done.-- Judy

Thanks, Judith Ann!! This happened in the 'hoity toity' suburb, where such embarrassing occurrences are NOT acceptable!! [Plus I was wearing a leopard print dress...VERY unacceptable!]

I just loved this review. Thank you for all your fun feedback. xo

Rachel, this was such an absorbing read. Written so beautifully as you took us on an emotional journey while quite literally rooted to the spot.

It must have felt like your life was falling down around you. Your crime, trying to be the what you are, the best teacher that your students could ever have.

Your telling of this tale was like a Shakespearian tragedy averted as it ended with a silver lining. Though you did not mention if you were billed for damaging the fire hose.

Your, clever, subtle use of innuendo was much enjoyed by this reader.

Well done for winning the book of the month award. Very deserving in my humble opinion.

Best
John xo

I LOVE your humble opinion!! And I appreciate it!

No, I never was charged for the hose. My brother-in-law was a big-wig at the Department of Public Works in town and knew the fire chief well, and talked him out of trying to punish me for my poor judgment. (As it turned out, I hadn't damaged the hose.) And I didn't get charged $75/day for improper plates, either. The Court took pity on me and fine me only $103 for the charge of 'crossing a fire hose,' which, when the judge first read it on my Summons, declared, "Crossing a fire hose? I've never heard of THAT charge before!" I'm such a trend-setter!

Anyway, I love your assessment that this chapter is like a Shakespearean tragedy! I'll remember that. xo

All's well that ends well. :)

Another assessment might be that this could have been an episode from "I Love Lucy", but then again that show didn't represent real life. ;)

What a nightmare of a day you had! It sounds like a catch 22 situation here where no one can offer you help because of "rules" and "regulations!" I hope it all got sorted without a hefty fine? For a piano teacher you get yourself into some scrapes! Love Dolly x

I agree!! Who knew there would be such landmines in such a seemingly benign occupation?!!

No, fortunately, all I ended up paying was a $103 fine to the court for the charge of "crossing a fire hose," which, in the words of the judge, ":Wow. First time I ever heard of THIS charge!"

That's a lot of catching up, at this point, but each one is an individual vignette, so it's not as if you "have" to, but I welcome it! xo

You're probably very fortunate you weren't hauled off to jail for making the hose stop pumping water on the fire. It sounds like Murphy's Law was in full effect that day, anything that could go wrong did. Good luck in the contest.

What a saga! Quite a comedy in retrospect, but it certainly wouldn't have been at the time! It's at times like this when you really appreciate an understanding husband and a clairvoyant daughter. LOL

You hit every nail exactly on the head, tfawcus! This is WAY more hilarious today than it was then! And G-d bless my husband for his ability to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with me, regardless. And Leah? Well, that was a big-time stroke of luck that day...but it WAS going to be her birthday the next day, so...

Oh, I can identify with that! I haven't exactly run over a firehose, but it's amazing what can seem like a good idea when you're in a hurry. I'm glad everything worked out in the end and you even got to celebrate your daughter's birthday with her.

Ooooooh, Rachelle!!
What an absolute nightmare that must've been. I was literally cringing as I read the part about you getting your car stuck over the hose and preventing the emergency services from doing their job... Noooo! Bless you, I'd've died LOL
This was a really entertaining read.
Good luck in the book of the month contest!
Best wishes as always, Debra :)
