Hi Dean,
Yup, I have to agree with you...having been on both sides of that fence. Ah, but the egos of the artistic...those mental calluses are something that come with time and confidence.
But, as you point out, we must always exercise temperance in our critique of others' work.
Nice job with this theme...definitely something that needs to be said now and then.
Later, my friend, bill

Thank you very much, Bill. So sorry about the lengthy delay in responding. As always, I really appreciate your comments and review. :)

A necessary reminder that cuts both ways. How we review newbies and, well, more importantly (to we who have born the brunt, anyway) a reminder to newbies on appropriate reviewing. After getting solid, lengthy reviews by some of the most respected poets on the site, nothing drives me more batty than the 3 or 4 with " I enjoyed it, and it is probably just me, but it was too hard to understand". And not being a newbie, after grinding my teeth, I have learned to just say " thanks for the review".

And therein lie the rub, right, Ed? Being able to step back, take a deep, relieving sigh, and simply say, "Thanks for reviewing". Not an easy thing to do, but it's probably the smartest thing to do. At least if you don't want Tom booting your ass off the site it is, LOL.

Hi Dean. This is terrific. I agree wholeheartedly. Honesty tempered with kindness is the key. You've expressed MY view so graciously in your poem. Wow! Marilyn

Hello Dean Kuch, Your poem says it all. I especially liked:
But if, while reading, you should see that something's not your cup of tea, perhaps you should simply pass -- instead of being cruel or crass.
(Amen)
Great presentation - white fonts on black. A fun, but necessary, poem.
Keep the blue waters flowing.
LateBloomer, the world's oldest LateBloomer and longest Newbie - lol.

I hear you Dean.
I remember well being crushed by the wrath of an author when I was a newbie.
It is a difficult time of transition - will the reviewers love or hate your work?
If I don't know how to review a work I pass it by.
I'm not sure if this is intentional or not but your side panel (profile) Is sitting over the top of the right side of your work. it makes it difficult to read your words.

The picture says it all. Veterans and newbies all have had moments when they dropped their head to the keyboard hoping for something decent to come out their brain to post.
The tone here is friendly, giving teacher advice. Why give out negative energy to a writer whose only crime is begin a newbie. As you stated,"I mean, c'mon, let's face it, we were all once considered as "newbies" too, right?" Although, it hard to believe, reading your unbelievable work, that your were once a newbie, but I'll take your word for it.

A-MEN Dean!!!
Nothing gets under my skin more than a person whose being rude or hurtful - for no reason other than to just be. I know it makes them feel better, they think it boosts their already fairly low self-esteem maybe.. Who knows.
I certainly do welcome, maybe even encourage sometkmes, for them to come visit my page. I find entertainment in people like that. They generally learn a few new words too - but never come back. Lmao. ;) <3

I agree with you Dean. I have for the most part had very kind reviews as a fairly newbie here. There have been a few who were not too kind. I just smile and wonder how the burr got inter his saddle and say a polite thank you.

Dean, how true this is. I didn't have a clue when I was new-I'm sure I wrote some ignorant comments. Nice use of internal rhyme. Have a good day, my friend~Debbie

Excellent advice and commentary on the newbies. You are right, we were all there at one time. However, I always look when I see a critical review or low rating and usually I find it was a newbie.
I also agree, sometimes, it's better to just pass.
Blessings

Thank you, Janet I'm like you as I would rather pass than take someone's funny money just to rip them apart.
I appreciate your feedback very much. :)
