Oh you fickle lover....winter can be a cold, icy and unforgiving mistress. The imagery painted is very striking and beautiful. Excellent job.

Hi, this was a great read, all in all. Moody and well written, and conceived, I liked it. Although, it had a bit of a strange twisty ending, which I felt didn't quite fit the rest of the poem, but that's probably just me.
Great work, overall. Your efforts were apparent in the execution.

Christianpowers: thanks for reading. The ending fit the rest of the poem perfectly. The goal was to personify winter. After winter, follows spring. So as I give up my winter lover, I take up a new lover, Spring. Put your thinking cap on, hon. It is as plain as day. Linda

Lovely, Linda, you certainly are lively. Sorry if you feel my opinion's wrong, which it most definitely is from your point of view, but that's the thing about opinions. They tend to be all full of holes and subjective like that.
Have a great day,
Christian

This is an interesting, free verse personification of winter as a cold and unsympathetic lover. Hope you have good luck in the contest, Jeanie Mercer

Thanks for reading.

You class this as free verse but your first stanza at least actually has such a strong meter that it came as a shock to find no rhyme at the end of it!
Your personification of winter as a cold lover works well - bet you can't wait for that hot date with summer!
