I remember the peonies my great aunt grew in her yard. Decadence is the best word to describe. They were just beyond beautiful.

Hi Val
Pinched at the pole by a petal or two. You poem is resplendent. I love flowers an after missing out as an entrant I was anxious to read and vote ... unfortunately I missed out. Really the winner's was spectacular though no mores o than yours. The only two I've read, yet both favourites. Your presentation is glorious and so perfect. I love peonies. Great allit. in "peony/petals/perfect". Great use of "explode" really lifts the poem to the next level. I love the expressive phrases you've used - "Wild abandon". Excellent word choice in "decadence". Your poem and the gorgeous image are a mind melt of pure delight. Just loved your poem. In fact I want to put yours and RodG's in a vase by my computer, so I can view them all day. :))) Hugs - Lovi xoxoxox PS I wish I had a six. :))

Thank you, Lovinia. I love peonies too. They are so gaudy and yummy, that I could eat them. I'm so glad you liked this little piece, and it did do okay. Hugs

Hi Val Yes congratulations in order ... you had high placement, and so well deserved. You poem was a glorious celebration of the peony. I loved it and to me, an equal first.
and Hershey kisses as your reward. - kovi xoxox

As always, Lovinia, you put a smile on my face. Thank you for the virtual Hershey kisses. Yum

This five - seven - five about the highly taunted peony petals reminds me that there is no better use of twenty bucks thn to buy your favorite gal some peony blossoms.

I count eight in the second line instead of seven. The picture is perfect with the beautiful peonies. My favorite
flower after lilacs. Thanks for using it in the contest.

No, there are 7 syllables there. "explodes" - 2, "in wild" - 2 - "abandon" - 3. None the less, thank you for the review and comments.

peony petals
explode in wild abandon
perfect decadence
Nicely done. The use of the "p" sounds, decadence... all work together to create a strong image of beauty.

Actually this is a perfect poem for one of God's most basic and yet most beautiful creations. Three little that says it all. Well done.

Thank you, they my absolute favorites also. I used to have a neighbor that grew them, and she would bring over buckets of them. I do miss them
