A clever little work. So much is done in the field of anthropomorphism, but plants are never given their own personalities...their own souls. Yet since they are in fact living entities it's fun to imagine that they would feel human like emotions.

Since plants are not capable of active movement or expression, we tend to neglect them more than we would our fauna friends. Plants die all the time because of humans, so we deserve this searing indictment.

I like how you made the tone of this humorous. You very easily could've made it morose because it does deal with death, but handling death in such a dark way all the time has become cliche.

I did feel like the pacing was a little choppy, but perhaps that's what you were going for. I'm not sure exactly how to improve it at this point, but the rhythm reminded me of a car that kept starting and stopping.

All in all this is a minor qualm, however, and I really enjoyed this work.

LOL Well thats a pretty good analysis then. Many thanks.
There was supposed to be a lamenting ebb and flow with this but not without some cutting comments so I very much welcome your warm comments. I'm a rhymer by trade and free verse NOT my forte...I always find too much to say, but THANKS for your honesty and glad you enjoyed my post.

A somewhat lengthy parhment sharing the laments of doomed foliage. No doubt the Princess of darkness (at least in the plant world) derived some pleasure from writing this piece. LOL Another great write to add to Your Imense collection of Masterpieces. Hope all is well!

God Bless!
Doug

Awww Douglas, the plants thank you my friend.
I DID derive pleasure from this piece and to be honest I DO have a few that grow.
    Mainly the cactii. LMAO
Lubbed your review. Enjoy your day. Now what's this about masterpieces? Speak for yourself holy man. (I meant that with respect and it was said with my closet humour Douglas...but of course you knew that!)

I've heard that talking to plants help them thrive, but it would appear yours are talking back. My favorite plants grow right here on FanStory in the form of words. Indeed they grow. Here's hoping the judges award you with fruit for your labors.

The Free verse is not my favorite because of no rhyme or humor...well.?
I was attracted to the well chosen picture, after re-reading and visualizing the
plants thoughts it makes a lot of sense,so well worth the rating.

Have a great day. _9 C here yesterday but warm sunshine.
Spring is close

Absolutely brilliant! If I had any sixes left I would give it. I loved this clever, witty poem from start to finish, and cackled loudly throughout. But I don't think I'll ever look at my garden hose in the same way EVER again. :-) I do feel for your plants though. Not that I'm a gardener either - this almost describes me, although I (usually) catch them in the nick of time, when they are just beginning to wilt.

You have an amazing way of stringing words together that just blows my mind away. Excellent. Superb. What more can I say?

Well done with this one! It is very thought provoking. I know it's a well written piece on plant demise that I half way share. This is thought provoking because it could also relate to our family members in nursing Homes that seem to be cast aside as well! Just speaking from some recent experiences! Great job!

Thanks Gary, I can see the relevance here...very sad.
Nice to know my plants can reach these heights and grab the reader in different ways. Especially seeing as though they are well and truly on their way out...and down. Haha

Well, as you know Sweetie, I am no expert in free verse, so I will give this my best shot as a reviewer. First, I like that you combine both sentences and phrases--makes for a more interesting read to me. Second, I love how you personify the poor dying plants. Personification is so fun to write and to read. Just the freedom to personify anything is a kick. Third, there are so many brilliant little Closet-like phrases or expressions in here. For example, the part about the "forty foot half-firm erection" is so like something you might write, which, of course, is always a delight to read. Fourth, you always succeed at a good play on words, e.g., "rotting in earthen pots now just rotten earth in pots." I think you will do very well in the contest with another of your original, clever, and humorous postings. You know I always want to give you a sixer, but I ran out way early in the week. I really must learn to spread those babies out.
Love ya and your poem too,
Connie xoxoxo

Awww thanks Connie girl...I'll honestly take whatever I get on this because I am JUST not confident with free versing...I find the biggest problem where to stop my line lengths so the hint of rhyme is there but NOT too overpowering or structured. Thats BIG for the little ol' closet you know? Yep, I think you know.
Loved you review and you simply mustn't give me a sixer all the time...unless of course you think I deserve it of course. Haha
Share your sixers around, you KNOW I value whether people like it through their comments more so than ANYTHING else.
Invisible rankings are SO much better...you know the ones that come from the words in review...not the stars attached.
    LUB you.
    Hugs...and kisses...to you.
A little wave to Bill ~
Cheers and thanks a bunch from Down Under...

    What? Plant murderer?
How many years is that worth?
Just as long as they don't put me in charge of the prison garden.
I could be whipping up a few more plant eulogies. Hahaha
    Thanks Z...
