Well, I didn't see that coming, Gretchen. You did a great job
leading up to the gunshot. I could feel the pain Donnie experienced.
What a sad ending to your story. However, everything fell into place,
and it all made sense. The bank was a no-feeling company out for
themselves regardless of loyal customers in dire need. I wasn't
a member of FS when this was posted originally.
Thank you for sharing, Jan

Seems this one is becoming more commonplace than when I originally wrote it. Thank you for your kind and understanding review. Gretchen

I am sorry to not have any sixes left for your excellent writing. The characters and situation are authentic, unfortunately, and you described the reality of this desperate situation with clarity and vivid detail. Very impressive.

This is brilliant Gretchen, you sure can write, you have that universal perception, necessary. There was a years long drought here in Australia, and that familiar Los of faith caused many suicides among those occupations that have to genuinely live by faith. Well done, blessings Roy

Well, thank you so much. That is very high praise. I appreciate the kind words. Thank you for taking to understand what I was trying to do with this. Faith is free and more people should indulge.

Well written. Good work.
With everything in hock, I don't quite see how he 'lived within his means'.
It's a shame, though, farms are lost every day. People pack up and go get a factory job. It's happened a million times.
Best wishes.

Thank you for reposting this again. I'm sorry I missed it the first time around. It seems truer today than it did when you first posted it.

Oct.2 2012. I wasn't a member then. I think I joined in Dec. It makes one sick to hear a story such as this one. There should be an out for formers and ranchers who get in this fix and just need a boost. I thought maybe his friends and family and neighbors would show up to help him out. Well done, Gretchen. Nancy:)

Sadly, this is spot on. Everyone, especially banks, want an unfair advantage to play these days and your character and past performances mean little to nothing. Plus, credit card interest rates should be considered illegal loan sharking. Great story! Wish I had a six.

I didn't remember reading this one when you first posted it. It really tugs at the emotions. Normally I don't care for the suicide to end all problems solution to a short story, but it worked in this case. You set it up, step by step, to show how he was stripped of his pride, piecemeal. I wish he had had a life insurance policy, though.

Hello GW,
thanks for sharing this interesting, though sad story. It makes no sense that a bank would with hold funds from someone when the loan would make the difference in whether they ever got paid back or not. It would seem to be better to make the loan than to foreclose on something they couldn't sell. Unfortunately, banks seem to only see the bottom line, not realizing that people are the reason for their existence.
Have a blessed day.

Unfortunately, the small town Bank is getting harder and harder to find. We were turned down for a 3000 dollar loan with a bank we've had our accounts with for 20 years. Depositing money we were their best friend. Asking for a loan, we were strangers. I took some liberties with my own experience. Thank you for reading and reviewing.
