I an sincerely pleased that you liked this one. It was most definitely one of the hardest assignments I have ever had to do and I am so thankful Jorge was there beside me to help with the translation.

Hi Smurphgirl,
I smile. She couldn't help but be a strong willed, determined person. She is after all born in under the sign of Scorpio. Love the portrait of this lady. And your story is interesting and educational. She certainly came a long ways since she lived during the time when women were refused so much in life.
Glad to hear your enjoying your lessons and I commend you the effort. Keep up the good work. Looking forward to your next post and thank you for sharing.

'Sor Juana Inez de la Cruz' is a fascinating story about a woman that I was unaware of. Her determination should be an inspiration for us all. The poem is amusing. I appreciate all the energy you put in it to make it flow so naturally.
A very interesting piece. I look forward to reading more about Sor Juana and hope you'll post more.

I'm sure my teacher will have plenty more fascinating assignments for me. Translating this was one of the most difficult things I have ever had to do. Thank goodness he was there to help guide me.

She was a beautiful woman in her time and in todays time as well. To be able to translate her works into English for us to enjoy is a gift for which I wish to thank you. She was a great poet. And my friend, you are a gifted writer.

Thank you so very much. This was the hardest assignment I have ever had to do. Without Jorge's help it would have been gibberish!

I thoroughly enjoyed this biographical sketch of Sor Juana Inez de la Cruz. It was informative and well written, as your pieces always are, but it was also very inspiring. I'm sure she had no idea that we, centuries later, would be discussing her talent and dedication to learning. I admire her determination. But, I also admire your skill in translating this poem of hers into a beautiful English poem that we can all enjoy. I'm sure it couldn't have been easy, but you've done it SO well. Thank you for this entire piece. (Is it mislabeled, fiction?)

Just marvelous! What an interesting history and poem. It must have been a lot of work to translate. I give you so much credit. Who says you can't teach an old dog new tricks? You are wonderful and so is this essay and poem.

Tank you for the marvelous 6 stars. This was the most difficult homework assignment I have ever had to do but I must admit, I learned a lot. So pleased you liked it.

You are rapidly turning into a bilingual scholar, and soon will leave our humble confines in search of loftier literary pursuits, I predict. Love, Maryellen

Thank you for this lesson in artistry and determination. I believe you possess these characteristics. This was a very well written and organized essay. The inserted poem of frustrated love is also an excellent example of Sor Juana's work. Best wishes, Hector

The Church is the biggest promoter of being against women rights. This is very well written with a smooth flow of words. Good job.

Thanks. I still find it amazing that she did all this in the 1600's. Just amazing!

Thank you for sharing the amazing story of this marvelous woman who was Sor Juana Inez de la Cruz. Her story is impresive and tragic. I did not know she is on the Mexican 200 pesos bill. She fully deserves to be honored and praised for her courage. The way she wanted to disguise herself as a man and study, reminded me of the picaresque novel. A very interesting and original piece.
