Oh, my gosh. I'd never dare go into an apartment I'd bugged to rescue one of them. This dude is an adrenolin junky.
I absolutely adore the way you've described the behavior of the dogs when they see Norman in the penthouse. Great job.

Neither would I, Renie. I can't figure out whether he plans to replace it when he gets the chance or what. Strange. But then, Norman's strange, sooooo.

I hope Kip knows this man is up to no good. My dogs have an inner sense when it comes to dangerous situations. I'm sure Cathy's dog do too. Another good chapter. You are dong a good job.

Hi Barbara,
Kip is an anomaly. I'm not sure you came in at the beginning, but Kip failed when it comes to being a guard dog. However, I think she's just about had it with the kicking. I would imagine the next time he does that, he'll come back with a bloody stump!

Hey Shelley,
I'm going to have to send you this book when it's published. I don't think you've missed a chapter. You're right, raincheck. Also, if you've ever had a black dog, when the blood dries it's almost invisible until you actually look. Right now Rudy's fixed on Cathy.

This is a very good, tense, and exiting chapter. However, I have a few questions. I like you description of Kip's reactions to seeing Norman, but after being kicked a second time and yelping, why didn't Cathy who has exceptional hearing, hear something? Also, being on edge both Rudy and Cathy would, I presume, be very nervous and hearing Kip yelp would have gone to investigate.
This is not as big an issue, and more of just a questions, but I would think Rudy would be cautious about leaving Cathy alone, even though they obviously did not find any bugs. Actually, because they didn't find any bug I would think their concern would be focused on someone nearby watching. When Kip sees the same man the following morning I would think her response would be more than just curious. This is the man that kicked her. I know she is a trained guide dog, but guide dogs are also very protective. These are just things that passed through my mind. I found one sentence you may want to look at:
"Oh, you bet.... I know different expressions are used all over the country but this doesn't sound natural to me...something like, no problem... would read smoother... again, just a suggestion.

I think Rudy and Cathy are a bit complacent. They feel safe in the condo and are sort of letting their guard down. They have no idea that Norman is in the condo next door.
I think the closest we can come to understanding Kip's behavior is that she's sulking. She wanted to play and the guy kicked her. Being Kip, as opposed, say, to Tony or Amy, she growls and leaves. That will change.
I'll also check that expression. Sasha, thank you so much for the great review. I sure appreciate it!

Norman has gotten back some of his bugs. He beat up Kip in the process. When Norman came back after Rudy left, the dogs didn't bark especially Kip. I find that hard to believe.

Pardon the poor taste here, because the dog is hurt; but I'm suddenly reminded of a song popular in the 1950's called "The Little Blue Man" - he pursues a gal (she's singing about him) with ardent and indefatigable love, and she repeatedly throws him under buses etc. Finally he limps up and confesses, "I don't wove woo any mowah." It seems that Kip also just fell out of love on some gut level.

Aha! Yes, Joel. We don't know his name yet, but we've met the 'gatekeeper' the personality who protects the host. He kinda rides herd over Norman when he gets too carried away. He doesn't want Nathan to end up in jail.
And you've got Kip perfectly. She has hurt feelings ... she only wanted to join in the games, and now he's kicked her, twice. She's going to sulk!
Wait until Rudy gets back, we'll see her come onto her own shortly. Of course, she'll have good examples to follow!

From norman running to get the bugs...to the last line i found myself moving closer to the moniter and wanting to speed read to see what happenned..Great job cutting the chapter at the perfect spot..
Cant wait to move on to the next...
