Plenty of drama in this chapter, Jim and now Brian and Jules will have to decide if they keep going. The sad thing is I can imagine this happening in real life. Well written Jim. Cheers

Thank you very much, Valda. It's such a shame companies will stoop this low, but it happens. Greed is a powerful motivator.

I appreciate your exceptional rating very much.

It's almost as if things could come falling from the sky at anytime, about like real life, "Now you see it, now you don't." Thanks for sharing another fine chapter.

Thanks for your exceptional rating, Ric. I really appreciate it. Life will be a little rough for this family for a while. They need to hang in there too.

I thought I reviewed but maybe the memory is unreliable.
Great job with this and glad that it was Fran behind Dana (got the names right this time!) I sure hope that Brian and his family keep safe and that they can tap those Pharma guys' phones and stop them! You are getting me a little paranoid about the phone now...

Yep, you guessed it right, Helen. Good job. Not too many did. That phone tap will prove to be indispensable in due course.

Jim,

This is a wonderful chapter of your story. I am glad that Dana didn't get caught it was a good thing Fran was around to help Dana out. It sounds like Brian and Jules need to figure something out. Why would big pharma take the chance to mess with him?

Well done

Cecilia

Thanks so much, Cecilia. Dana wanted to do it by herself, but I think she was glad Fran was there to save her bacon.

Brian especially is in a quandary about what to do. Continue with his trials or give them up to keep his family safe?
reply by Cecilia A Heiskary on 06-Mar-2025
I choose that they are going to decide to continue with the trials and FBI is going to swoop in and save the day.

I am so hooked, because I like drama, mystery, suspense, and the fear of almost being caught. The previous chapter and this chapter have left me with an uneasy feeling. You've made it impossible to guess what might happen next.:

That's great, Lorraine, because the rest of the story will be filled with those things you like. We've got 10 more chapters to go.

The tension in this chapter was palpable, Jim, you had me on the edge of my seat the whole time. Man, when Marie finds out about the danger she's going to shit!
I can't wait until the next chapter. Good lord!
By the way, I'm joining the multi-book with Carol and will follow your chapter. This makes me nervous. Lol.
God bless,
Steve

Thanks so much, Steve, for this great review and the 6 stars. The pace will continue to pick up from now on until the end. Hope you enjoy the ride.

I'll be posting my next chapter of Trouble in Red tomorrow. There actually isn't too much new in it except that I've tried to put everything that came before into a consistent theory of the case. There were so many possibilities, that I thought I would try to narrow it down some. Wendy's chapter 7 especially posed a lot of theories, so I took much of it from there by focusing in on a few. I think it should be easier to continue it now with fewer things to have to consider.

Of course, Ethan could always be wrong too, and it could still go in a completely different direction than he thinks, but that will be up to someone else.

Actually I never thought of this before but this would make an excellent basis for a movie, they are always interesting to, Crime and the intrigue of espionage and and threats on life. You're right it was a real surprise Fran turning up,beautifully written Jim, blessings, Roy

You're the third one who's mentioned making it into a movie. I think it would make an interesting one with a fair amount of excitement. Thanks for that, Roy.
reply by royowen on 06-Mar-2025
It would indeed, you've got many excellent and diverse characters.

The Big Pharm's plans have started. I just saw a news clip the other day about how young people are getting sick, for life, from the COVID vaccinations they too, all because they were told they were safe. This story really hits home.

Those vaccinations have turned out to be a fiasco. A rush job, and people were not sufficiently warned about possible dangers but were encouraged to keep getting them and getting them.
reply by barbara.wilkey on 06-Mar-2025
Or to lose their job if they didn't get them.

Great! I thought it was Fran. But her explanation and involvement in the scheme, especially with the distracting shots, are very clever. Your excellent chapter has plenty to keep the reader occupied. Fran's an impressive character with a great, forensic brain. We feel safe when she's around whilst Dana clearly needs back-up, her emotions ruling her head a bit. The transcript and the letter also add interest, a contrast to the prose and bring the story even more to life. Then poor old Brian! And I don't blame him. Fran doesn't hold back with the danger he's now in. Or, rather, his family faces.
"Some of the worst stories I've heard about Big Parma (pertain) to them" - A little pompous in everyday speech? Maybe "are about" or "refer to"
"All he wants to do is make a drug that helps people like it's helping him" For some reason I didn't get the sense of this when I first read it. I do now and it's fine but you could say "like it's doing for him." Ah, I think I know what's the matter - if you put a comma after 'people' it stops the word running into 'like' (which is mistaken for a verb). If that makes sense:)
Thank you so much, Jim, for this very commendable chapter which I enjoyed. It's perfect but, as ever, I'm nit-picking:) Warm wishes Debbie

Thanks so much, Debbie, for this analytical review. Brian is really feeling the frustration now as he's torn between wanting to see his life's work succeed, yet fearing for the safety of his family. Quite a predicament to be in.

I liked both of your wording suggestions, and made changes to both places. Thanks for that.

Dana certainly has an ample lunch "hour." :-)

The sad thing is, I believe this kind of intimidation goes on in business; certainly in politics. It's an epidemic in this country.

A dark turn in the story, Jim.

I believe it does, too, Pam, and it's such a pity. People can be awful shitty, especially when money and power are involved.

    It gets darker.
