What does Dougie want to ask? I wish I knew. I'm behind in my reading maybe I'll find it. I hope he knows Miranda doesn't love him anymore. Poor Wayland.

Excellent story... very intriguing and engaging.

I love the way Mitch and Miranda love each other.

Hello Gretchen,
you've left us wondering what to expect gal. Do you already know the answer, or are you going to deal with it when you get there?
There is a lady with beautiful red hair that attends the church where we go. Last week I saw that she had gotten it cut and it really looked nice. I weighed mentioning how nice she looked for quite a long time, not wanting to emberass her, nor cause her husband, a nice but kind of uptight kind of fellow, to come unglued. In the end, I told her and she thanked me. I figure if I can't admire a nice looking woman without giving off the wrong impression by the time I'm 72, then that's their problem, not mine.
Have a blessed evening gal.
Tom

A compliment meant in earnest should be relieved as such. It's the lecherous ones that cause the problems. Thank you so much! Gretchen

Great job with this chapter, Gretchen. Not much really happens, but we get a good idea of what's going on in Miranda's mind and how she processes everything. I loved her observations about men and jealousy. She certainly seems to understand her man.

I also loved seeing how close Momma and Waylon have become even though he's not her flesh and blood.

And now, Dougie has something to tell her that hopefully will be a clue about the crime. Looking forward to the next chapter.

I guess when we have lost a boyfriend, perhaps they don't like the idea that they have been replaced, or rather supplanted by someone else, people like Dougherty's have no idea what forever means, but Mitch does, and Waylon knows where his safety lies, well done, blessings Roy

You are the queen of the cliffhangers. This one was especially good. What the hell could it BE?! Damn you, Hargis!

Very well done chapter with authentic worrying by Mitch (even tough law guys have insecurities, after all. If he didn't he'd seem cocky, and he's too sweet and open and good for such nonsense.) Nice touch, for sure, Gretchen.

I noticed this teeny spag:

It's the **principal** of the thing to Mitch. (you want the homonym: principle.)

Dougie is so self-centered it would never occur to him that she doesn't love him, if she ever did. Fortunately, his son is much smarter, but he knows Miranda loves him.

Just said it was important and you'd understand." Can't wait to find out what Dougie wants to tell her. I am positive she will regret going there in the morning.

I really like this story and you're doing a great job writing it.

Miranda seems to understand the way men think. I agree about the wife or girlfriend's relationship with another man no matter how innocent they need to be reassured. I'm anxious to find out what Dougie will tell Miranda and if he will remember any of what happened.

Thank you, Beth. I'm sure whatever he says to her, she probably will not understand. Lol. Gretchen

Thank you for sharing another excellent chapter, Gretchen! When you describe the beach scene, it takes me back to Saltwater Ghosts which you always made so beautiful and atmospheric. The dialogue too is all very credible and typical of men's jealousy for no accountable reason. A very enjoyable read! princip(le) Take care Debbie
