This one I missed earlier. Miranda is off to scout out the church attended by the lady who she thinks might have something to do with the murder. Dougie is the major suspect in the murder. I loved the assessment of churches that seem to be doing more harm than good, but she put on nice act for the church secretary.

Thank you so much for this nice review. Gretchen

Wow! What an interesting tour of a weird church. Curious about John the Baptist's head on a plate in the window! I will be interested to see how Miranda goes in the service. No spags.

"I've heard preachers say love thy neighbors, then tell you that gays are spawns of Satan. I've seen children shunned because" - this is true.
I grew up in Spain in a time when all adults and children were forced to practice catholic religion. I was disappointed by the hypocritical people.
I wonder what Miranda is doing at church. I feel like I missed something.
I'm curious to find out what happens next.
Well done!

She found out that Mira Evanoff goes to the church. It is one of those churches that is very conservative. SHe was just digging up information on her own. Gretchen

This is a spectacular chapter, Gretchen, leaving me wanting for more. There are all types in the Church. Hypocrites, those who pick and choose scripture to flaunt their own insecurities, etc. For me, the real Church is inside. Am I without flaw? Absolutely not. But I live my life, talk to god, and continue being me.
I'm curious to see what Mira's class has to offer.
God bless,
Steve

I'm with you, Steve. I can be sitting in my car and talk to God. I miss church sometimes because of the people. God is everywhere. Thank you so much for this outstanding review. Gretchen

My pleasure, Gretchen. I was late putting my chapter out, but it's up.

I loved this chapter, Gretchen. I think Miranda nailed it with her description of certain unsavory religious sects with, "They are the ones who are making up the rules as they go along."
I laughed at this statement from Miranda: "I try not to come up with an outlandish lie for the reason of my visit," since that would be her natural tendency in many similar situations.
She certainly had this church pegged correctly as evidenced by its sole stained glass window depicting such a gruesome but telling scene.
I also loved Miranda's description of something churchy as not showing cleavage and loose-fitting pants.
I think she's probably onto the solution of the murder with her choice of suspects. Can't wait for the encounter at the parenting class.

Thank you so much, Jim. Miranda probably doesn't have much in the way of churchy clothes. She is quite fond of her boobs. lol. Thank you again for this. Gretchen

Miranda has a problem. Who can she get to go with her, and, from what the lady says, this doesn't sound like a church that would work for her. I have to think Mira's class for how to raise children might turn Miranda into a crazy lady thinking kids are being tortured if raised her way.

I think she might ask her mother and Aaron to go. That would be an interesting combo. Mitch would see through her wanting to go to that church and would flat out refuse. Thank you for this. Gretchen

Wow, this chapter pulled me right in! Miranda's voice is full of personality - I love how her thoughts bounce between humor and deep observations. The way you described the church really made the place feel real. And that conversation with the church lady was so well done! I can't wait to see what Miranda uncovers next. Keep it coming!

Miranda ,no doubt is cynical about churches in general .I think the lady must have guessed that miranda is not straight in her seeking the church .I hope she wont antagonise her police boyfriend with her independent investigation...

Of all the churches I have been to (and very few had stained glass windows) there was never one depicting the beheading of John the Baptist. Now that would be scary.
Personally, I think Miranda could be a better teacher of such a class. It sounds suspicious since we know that Mira's son may have been sexually abused by that now deceased teacher.
I think I'd vote for Mitch accompanying her.
Great job with this chapter!

Thank you so much. I think Mitch would tell her no. He would know why she is there. Her mom and probably Aaron would go. Gretchen

Hello Gretchen,
I'm always a little bit entertained by people who lament the fact that there are hypocrites in the church, thus they don't want to attend. I suspect there are hypocrites at Wal-Mart, their place of work, the movie theatre and the ball park too, but it never keeps anyone from attending.
In any event, I loved the way the scene unfolded. If Miranda is going to be doing things that are deceptive, she needs to think of all the issues before she undertakes her plan. It runs in my mind this is the second time she's been caught off guard. Is she hoping to befriend Mira in an effort to get information? I hope she doesn't do anything to jeopardize her relationship with Mitch. Well done gal.
Have a blessed evening.
Tom

I believe you are right. Church is a bigger target though. Practice what you preach kind of thing. I love my church so I don't agree with her. But I have been to some that are iffy. Thank you so much for this. Gretchen
