The whiskey-stinking smugglers had long since resigned to their fate and slumped against the dirt walls. But the women? They weren't giving up.
NIiiiice! Of course they aren't!

Oh, you do know how to turn up the tension! Those women need a miracle and Garth, though understandably torn, will provide it...
Poor Rebecca...she must hold on!
Eleanor ought to get hazard pay -- she's been torn in multiple directions!
Sooooo good!

Thanks...miracle was granted...but Rebecca...I'm not so sure just yet. Lenore is a woman of mystery. She lives in her own world of spirits and the past... she reminds me of the Indians and their medicine dances.

Oh my.
Rebecca may not be saved?

While the men have given up the women they were holding captive have found their strength to survive is strong, as Garth and his team get on with their task. A great chapter Carol, as always, well written.
Cheers

Thanks, Valda...Most women, especially ones who have had children or cared for others, seem to be stronger when its needed... they have that survival mode. Thanks so much.

This was another intense chapter, Carol, I could feel Eleanor's desperation to get to the women, and the storm really added to the tension. Another excellent read, I really enjoyed it.

What a terrible thing for the women to be buried and fearing the entire tunnel will collapse on them. But it is worse for Garth as he senses Rebecca's need for him, but he doesn't know where she is, and he does know where the women in trouble are.

Continuing drama and tension - but Eleanor is nearing the women and with the help of Garth and his men they will get there in time, and then they will find Rebecca. We'll see Travis restored to his mother too. I don't feel sad that Jack and his mates have come to the end they deserved.
Wendy
Check: "The storm had disrupted the energy" (three times in close proximity.)

I got a big mug of hot tea so I could sit back and enjoy the adventure I knew you had in store for me. Pieces are slowly coming together for the women in the tunnels and soon for Rebecca. You are clearly the master story creator, who knows how to pace a mystery, leaving readers dangling in the air, wishing they could enter the story and help the characters. If only we could reduce Garth's anxiety by telling him where Rebecca was.

A well-written chapter, full of good suspense. I like that Garth is sensing that Rebecca is calling to him. Eleanor is right, that the trapped women are the first priority. She seems to have a good plan. Blessings. Carol

That was the right decision, and Garth knew it. I just hope Rebecca doesn't die, that would kill Garth too. To lose her and Allie would not be nice. Happy ever after, Carol!! Now let's get those women out, find Travis again, and save Rebecca. And then sort that Chinese jerk out!! Surely that's not a lot to ask a renowned author such as yourself?? LOL! Love you lots, my friend. :)) Sandra xxx

This continues to build up so nicely, Carol.
I think the pacing of this is excellent, you mix tension with moments of relief and sudden bursts of action almost effortlessly.
I can't wait to read what happens next.
