I am in tears. I know what it is like to reflect back on childhood memories. As I read, I thought back over my own life with my two siblings. I wasn't expecting the ending of your letter, but am so sorry for your loss. This is such an emotional and heartfelt letter that I'm almost sure John's spirit can sense your feelings.

Your writing is so heartfelt and full of love - it pulled me in immediately. I felt the raw emotion in every line of your letter. Especially the way you shared how much John quietly supported you throughout your life. That image of him holding your hand as a child and never letting go was so
moving. Your words are a beautiful tribute to your bond with him. This is touching and unforgettable.

Ohhhh my. I am sitting here awash in tears, but their tears of appreciation to you Mary, because this is so extremely well written. So full of love and understanding of who John really was for you throughout the entirety of your lives. The quiet one who shows up rather than speaking up, and really, which of the two of those commodities stays with us the longest?

I'm so very, very sorry for his absence now in your life. But what beautiful lemonade you here for the rest of us with these lemons you were dealt. I'm sending you nothing but love today. Thank you for entrusting us with this absolutely luminous write. xoxoxoxoxo

A beautiful and touching tribute to your brother. It seems so odd to be able to say "I love to people we sometimes barely know, yet we have reservations on saying I love you to our family.

Thank you for you review and kindness. Your right saying "I love you" comes easily to acquaintances but not to our family.
    Best wishes,

I'm sorry for your loss.
Many of us Boomers have lived our entire lives without verbal expressions of love within the family. Maybe it's true of all generations, but it certainly was ours.
Best wishes.

You really have paid a wonderful tribute to him here in this very letter that you have written so wonderfully.
I do not doubt that he is still around you and still holding your hand. Take care of yourself. Well done, and thanks for sharing this great piece.

Oh, Mary, what a beautiful letter to your brother, John. Thank you for your candid story and written expression. You are a very good writer and make it seem easy but I know it's not. I know John is with you and loves the letter.

Well done

Poignant. Touching. True for most of us. My family is spread to the four winds and a phone call is the only way we keep in touch. My older siblings are in their eighties. I'm eighteen months short of the big eight-o and my younger sibling is two years behind me. Life is too short to not talk to one another. I'm sorry John never saw the letter, but I'm sure he knows your feelings. Very nice and well thought out. Thanks for sharing it. Be well.

Mary, I am so sorry for you loss of John. I love the photo although I cannot see it very well. Your story filled in the details though. Hand holding implies so much: strength, love, protection from a guardian. My five brothers are gone now. My losses are great and I feel yours too. A beautiful true story and contest entry. I'm sure it will win a ribbon.
Sending you my best today as always and hugs across the miles.
