I just got done reading your entry here, thank you for sharing your story. That must've been a difficult journey. Your attitude is amazing by sharing that Life is an adventure to be lived.
You mentioned you had an accident in July. I'm sorry that you went through whatever you went through.
Hope you're having a wonderful day leading into the weekend.

Hi Lana, Yes, the accident was July 1982. When I was hit by a car and lost my leg as a result. This weekend is Australia Day which I don't celebrate. My grandma was Aboriginal and the whites stole our country. Blessings, Kay XX

An excellent entry for the My Worst Fear Writing Contest. When someone is going through something so difficult you would think the hospital staff and visitors would be extra careful to get the procedure right and help the patient get through to the other side. "Don't cry dear...it upsets me" Well this just has me clenching my teeth in anger!! I am assuming this is a true story and I hope it's been over for awhile now and that you have moved on to living your best life dispite the treatment you received.

Hi Marilyn, Yes, a true story; lost my leg in 1982. Many moons ago. A hard lesson; I thought I was bullet-proof and a smartie. I left the hospital and humility was my friend. Thanks so much. K XX

Hi Aussie,

Thank you for sharing your story. The most uplifting part is getting through the fear and planning for your future "whatever it is." Success is overcoming fear, and you did that.

For improvement, there are places of noticeable repetition. If you change a few words it would help.

For example:

a sedative to calm me down before I went down to surgery. (You could eliminate either occurrence of 'down').

"she was crying" "tears ran down her cheeks" "she wiped her tears" "Please don't cry" (When her back was turned to you, how did you know she was crying? Did her chest heave? Did she make a funny noise? Could you hear her swallowing hard? These are things that show she was crying instead of telling. Then, without saying tears, her face was wet would show the same thing. It will help you reduce redundancy and elevate your writing.

I hope this helps you.

Patricia

I like this true story because it is so real. Sorry to read you were given the incorrect medicine. Your vivid use of words makes the reader feel like she is in the room with you and I like your statement "fear, the only way out, is through.

Sometimes people say things in stressful situations that they regret afterwards, surely your mother did. You have tackled a lot of tough things in your life K, bravely and this must be up the top. Thanks for sharing your story with us, and happy writing in 2025.

Hello Valda, Thank you for reviewing. Yes, Mum apologised. She was shocked to see me legless, and she was my biggest supporter later. Without my faith, I don't think I would have had the strength. Love, Kay xx

This is an extraordinary story, written with enough detail and description that the reader can feel your fear and anxiety. I can't begin to imagine how I would feel with such a life-changing surgery looming. Even though your story is traumatic, you end with a very positive and inspiring message. "life is an adventure to be lived." Best wishes in the contest.

You poor thing! On your birthday, too! Your mother sounded nice, hmm. You mustn't cry because it upset her? What was she thinking? You came through it, and you did find a life again. This is a great story for the worst fear contest. The pain you must have suffered. I've heard that when a person has had an amputation, they still feel the pain in that leg, even though it's no longer there. That's a tough one! Well done, my friend. Good luck in the contest. Love and hugs. And a happy, healthy 2025!! Sandra xxx

Hello Possum, Thanks for reading. My Mother couldn't stand to see me legless, later she apologised and gave me a lot of positive help. Dad just fell to pieces, a gentle soul. I achieved so much as an amputee. Horse riding, the first disabled person on the National body of RDA. I started art classes where I lived in the country; it's still going strong. The council got behind it and built the group a brick building. Last year I won 1st place for a pastel painting. Never been a couch potato; the arthritis has stopped my painting, I find solace in writing and all my overseas friends on Fanstory. Bless your cotton socks and may 2025 be happy and healthy my bestest friend. Love Kay XXX
