This tanka, Mother Earth, has the proper formatting and gives words to the planet which needs to understand why it is so under-appreciated by the people.

Sometimes it feels more like feigned ignorance when big business abuses Mother Nature - in the name of making our lives richer again. Only a few get rich, as the rest watch the planet die.

Great job with your nature tanka! It's shocking how we mistreat the earth and how much we are dependent on nature for our very lives. Great job with your personification of Nature!

Exactly! Mankind can't see beyond the end of his nose - so many beautiful and complex works of nature, and the processes of nature so intricately working together for self-preservation. Well said.

Very nicely and succinctly said in your 5 line verse, Kahpot! I like the force of your words and the challenge by nature to man to explain his indifference and undoing. Thank you for sharing your fine verse, complemented with a stunning visual. Take care Debbie

The message is clear. It is relevant and profound. You have stayed true to form and the subject matter. Besides attention to syllable structure, in your view, what else is essential to writing a "good" Tanka poem? I would like to get your thoughts on that ... if you care to share.

TANKA is a Japanese poetic form that originated in the Japanese Imperial Court, 1,200 years ago. It can embrace all emotions of love, pity, suffering, loneliness, or death. Tanka is succinct and may not exceed 31 syllables in this format (5/7/5/7/7) but it can be LESS than 31 syllables in a short/long/short/long/long form
Although this Tanka refers to nature, a Tanka subject is mainly about emotion, as above, I wrote on not long ago "death of my love" if you would like to read it, thank you****kahpot

Thanks for explaining further. Actually, I remember that piece - Death of My Love ... Quite sad as the title indicated, but it was one of my favorite reads this week. Thanks again.

This a nice poem about God's protection and nurturing of mankind.
This poem is so beautifully put together.
You have the right amount of syllables for each line and good luck with it.
