This is a very beautiful and well written poem about things we have loved for so long still have to move over at times for the new things to come on board. You used great descriptive words and great imagery. Thanks for sharing and the memories! Blessings, Teri

Does this ever ring true! I have two Tupperware tubs in my attic filled with my children's childhood memories - "old school reports" among them. I've asked them if they would like to take possession, but these things don't mean as much to them anymore. Yet I can't throw them out.
Their hearts and memories of their childhood do not require things to remind them.
I thought this was a love poem, very well written and REAL. Thanks for sharing it with us, and good luck in the free form contest.

Your poem narrate a sad reality of life as the old things are replaced with the new, and history lost in hidden places, memories gradually fade away. The imagery here is creative, and I find the last two line laced in hope, 'But the love that was created within our family,
Will be cherished in hearts for an eternity...'. Well don dear, BeeJay.

A poem that speaks the truth about reality. I have a photograph of my fathers family (1926 era) and the seven people are all gone and the picture is slowly fading away, literally.

You paint a true but desolate picture of our lives--- all the things we love now overtaken by the new generation. Where has the 5 cents cup of coffee gone?
Yes, love of a family (or that of anybody's love) is such a warm feeling, hopefully lasting through all eternity.

I thought this was really poignant. You sum up a life in a box of memoribilia, forgotten in a closet. The details of what's in that box reconstruct glimpses of this life for us: the studying as a scholar, the birthday cards, the music that once graced it. That makes it so approachable for us as readers. But you also move our thinking from the scattered snippets of these things to the soul that escapes corruption through its love for the people around. estory

Although I don't think family traditions will be necessarily forgotten I do understand where you are coming from. The sad sentiments of yesterday go away and are replaced by new memories of today. My favorite line is, But the love that was created within a family will be cherished in hearts for an eternity. That says it all as far as love is everlasting.

sad commentary on life and death and memories of those who came before us. I like the image chosen and the idea that we all eventually die and fade away into memories among those left behind.

It is so crazy the older we get the more we realize how time is short and when others have gone before us, we end up having to go through their stuff to figure out what to do with it. The value that it might've had for the person that once enjoyed those items, may not be the same as those who are still waiting their turn for eternity.
Thank you for writing something that made me sit back and ponder. Happy Monday!

Very nice poem, Beejay. I am old enough to appreciate what lies behind this poem. The two lines that you finish up with are great. Best of luck in the contest.
