War - When will they learn?8 total reviews
Comment from Dolly'sPoems
War is such a terrible tragedy and many die for no reason. We humans will never learn to live in peace as there is always some crazy leader who wants to steal land and kill for it. A poignant write, love Dolly x

This contest entry speaks the truth. I keep wondering when governments will understand war solves nothing. It only get generations killed. Thank you for sharing this entry with us. Good luck with the contest.

Hello Charlotte,
You've posed a question that has been asked since man has been on earth I suppose. I imagine if the folks in charge had to put their own lives on the line in the middle of terrible battles, there would be more willingness to talk things out. Well done gal.
Have a blessed day.

Ha ha VERY good point Tom!
Yes, funny how Assad made such a hasty retreat the moment he thought he might receive a taste of his own medicine!
And wouldn't it be just wonderful if Putin suddenly found himself in the middle of a blazing battlefield!
Ah you see, I have a mean side to me too! LOL
Thank you so much for your review, you have a blessed day too.

I don't think you're being mean at all. There is most certainly a law of sowing and reaping. Dr. Charles Stanley used to say, we reap what we sow, more than we sow and later than we sow. Sometimes justice takes time, but it's coming.

Hmm a great saying, and very true.
Here's hoping it comes sooner rather than later for Putin, Assad and the rest of them!
Peace n' Love is what I say - but I am a child of the sixties!! LOL

Oh, you ask that question we never stop asking--when will wars ever cease? Today I heard on-the-spot reporters discussing what they found in a Syrian prison while bombs kept landing in Lebanon and Gaza and the Ukraine. I am assuming the THEY referred to are the countless innocent victims, not just soldiers. Rod

Hi Rod,
Thank you so much for your kind review.
Yes I had all those countries in mind when I wrote this, plus the Sudan of course.
And yes again, THEY referred to everyone affected, and particularly the numerous innocent victims.
Thanks again,
Charlotte

This is a powerful poem, you have used the limited syllable count very well. Senseless how many people have died needlessly in war. It's just incomprehensible, I can't imagine what the families of those lost have had to suffer and go through.
Well done with this and I wish you the best of luck for the contest. Will they ever learn! Great image to compliment.
Best Wishes

Hi Nicki,
Thank you very much for your kind review and good wishes.
I so nearly called this piece 'Incomprehensible' but then decided upon 'Relentless' in illustration of how far back wars go in history - I now wish I'd used your word 'Senseless', which it really is!
Thank you again,
Charlotte

Image and words go well together. Thanks for sharing and I hope you go well in the contest. Very hard to impact with such a short scope of wording but this has impact. Take care and have a most wonderful day,

Your poem is short but packs a real punch. I can feel the message about the endless cycle of war. The way you've captured so much emotion in just a few words is really powerful.

This was a great poem. I personally wish it was displayed a bit differently, in that each syllable of the 2-4-2 wasn't separated the way in which it was-- that each line had the designated syllables. That's a bit of a structural issue to me, but in terms of writing, it was both powerful and meaningful. The "die in vain" line really spoke to me, and I greatly appreciate you sharing this poem. Write on!

Hi Avery,
Thank you for your review, although I didn't fully understand it.
By "...in that each syllable of the 2-4-2 wasn't separated the way in which it was" - do you mean you'd like to see longer, multi-syllable words?
And "That each line had the designated syllables" - It did didn't it?
I really appreciate criticism as it help me to improve my writing, but I didn't actually understand what you were trying to say. Would you be willing to explain further? It would really help.
Thanking you in advance,
Charlotte
