There are certainly a lot of things that can be done to improve the site; but in truth, I guess we could say that about most everything in life. The bigger problem is getting adults to stop acting like children and agree on something. LOL. Thanks for sharing.

Let him know that I will buy it. I think it is a solid investment. I will install all of your suggestions once I seal the deal.
Now....does anyone have some money I could borrow?
Tee hee.

You are a tease. When Hollywood discovers me I will buy this from Tom, or make my own. I can have my own fantasy's can't I? Karen

Hello Karen,
congratulations on the ATB award. Even though I've been on here for a few years, I still don't know all the ins and outs. I just wanted a chance to write and to get some immediate feedback. Plus I get to read some pretty awesome stuff. Once in awhile I read something I don't care for, but I only follow folks I know I'm going to get something good from. I know there are lots more good authors on here that I don't follow, but there just isn't enough time. I don't want FS to be something I feel like I have to do, but something I want to do. Well done gal.
Have a blessed evening.

I just learned last month. that you can look up someone's work by name if you go to their Fan page., hit profile, and then look at the choices on top poems, stories, book. scripts. all.pick all and it gives you their work alphabetically. Pick "Henry Hannamaker Heard a Voice" and see one of my first long tales. I don't know if you've read it or not, but we no longer have a long troll to find a story. I have been hear a year and a half and just learned that! Thanks for the read and kind words. Karen

This was a fun reading and I enjoyed it very much. I wish you the very best with all of your writing. I wish you the best with the dialogue on a contest that you have a wonderful day. May you have a wonderful week and may God bless you. Patricia.

That picture was a hoot. And, I am now, and always have been a stinker. My Momma said that with a smile. :-)

That was brilliant, Karen. Reading this, if Tom was to sell, or just close the site down, what would happen to the premier authors? They have paid money to have their work read for life. It's just a thought. But reading your piece did make me wonder. You had some really good ideas, my friend, I can't see Tom selling, at least not yet for a while. Well done!! :)) Sandra xx

Thanks for the read and nice comments. People that do not adapt and grow, wither on the vine.
I have been working on a four part serial murder story. It has been slow, because I cannot use much humor. But, folks have wanted dark and dirty, so I will finish chapter four, then release them a bit at a time. This is not a fun read. But, I think it is good. We will see. Karen

This was really good, Karen. You make a lot of interesting and valid points here in a clever way. You've succinctly offered up a number of criticisms of the way the site works and made suggestions on how it could possibly work better. At the end of the day, though, it is a business, and the model seems like a very workable one to make money.
The criticism I liked the best was the one about making all contests blind. That would help take the "popularity contest" aspect out of the judging and perhaps better-quality entries would receive prizes, not to mention even get read in the first place.
Frankly, I don't see how folks find the time to judge contests fairly. There are often so many entries to read and evaluate. This on top of our own writing time, reading and reviewing others' stuff, and replying to reviews. There are only so many hours in the day.
I no longer enter or participate in contests in any way, but that's just me. We each get out of this website what we want to and find value in doing.
For me, it's the reviews--both receiving and giving--that I enjoy the most (next to the writing, of course). I find it very gratifying when someone gets what I'm trying to say, and they really think about my stuff in a critical way. I also appreciate the negative reviews, because they always get me to think about the posting, whether or not I agree with them, and help me improve. I like the back-and-forth with folks too.

Well, honey bunch. I like shiny ribbons. I think everyone knows when it is me blind or not. I have been told often, that no matter what kind of story I write they know I wrote it. Must be the accent. Thanks for the read. love to you and yours. Karen

Some excellent and salient points in the form of a conversation.
I am new to the whole FanStory thing, but in my short time here, I have already noticed how some sides of it are inherently unfair and do not reflect true talent. (Note; I am not trying to place myself into a true talent category)
When I was a gamer, I hated multiplayer games where it was possible to buy progress. Big bucks meant you could afford the shiny big gun with the one-shot kill. I left those games as I always play to win not pay to win.

Sometimes I am forced to use points to get read. But, I earn the points reviewing others work. I do not pay money to be read. When I got here I knew very little about poetry. Free verse, and limericks mainly. Clean ones but funny. And I only wrote mystery and crime shorts stories. Now, I write all kinds of stuff. Thanks for the read. And have a good week.Karen

I am the same, I read and review in order to boost things I want to boost, other than that I get read by those who have started to follow my submissions.
I also find the contests fun and sometimes get a boost to my balance from a bit of success there.

I just read your horror poem, I did not care for the style. You probably did it well, but I found the reading onerous. So, I did not review it. Your story just before was a perfect thing and And I did review it. Glorius.
Karen

Not everyone will like everything i write, and that's OK
Hopefully, you will enjoy some of my other poetry. It's not all horror. If it's the one I am thinking of, it was probably written to meet a competition brief.
So thank you for looking and for your honesty :)

Horror is fine and you have great vocabulary chops. It was the poetic form that grated. The form itself had no flow and actually had very little to do with you. I look forward to reading more stories. Karen
-
Perhaps because I don't dream and certainly can't recall having a nightmare (I am sure I do dream as we all do, I just never remember them)
It was deliberately written in a ?violent? manner to try and be disjointed and random in the way of dreamscapes

your writing was not the issue. the poetic form was cumbersom. and clumsy. Karen

There are a flurry of suggestions fluttering about right now...
We seem to go through this debate every few months.
I laughed out loud at the thought of Tom selling!
This place is a goldmine!
There are folks here who spend a ton of '"real"money to buy "member dollars" to promote their work...
The site "guidelines" for stars and reviewing are not requirements or rules-- they are suggestions.
How about no stars at all!
(There's a novel idea...)
Hah!
Your tone was pleasant and your ideas thought provoking!
(Also? I love that Tee-Shirt!)

I have have heard of Tom selling since the very first day I got here. I think getting some publishers to do the occasional review so they can find some new writers would be a great thing, and get him prestige too. But it is just a dream.:-)

Publishers would be nice!

You certainly have some great ideas, I actually wrote to Tom, suggesting that once a blind contest is over all works get released as "new work" for the authors, along with available credits, very well written, and I hope Tom reads this one****kahpot
