Whoa. This is brutal. But you portrayed it with panache and aplomb and understanding. We all make mistakes, and even though this one is especially tragic, it doesn't change how I feel about Mitch - that he's one of the good ones of life. Well done, Gretchen. xoxox

Thank you. Funny thing about this, I've written Marshall's story. I finished a book about him . I was planning on posting it next year. Thanks for this. Gretchen

This is a great story, if sad. The descriptive words you use pull your reader into the story as if they were sitting back observing everything.

Great job

Cecilia

That was indeed a sad story. Hard to imagine why a guy like Marshall, who was such a good guy in high school, changed so much and became an abusive drunk. Likely he was also abused, but Mitch didn't know about it.

It's bad enough when they take their frustrations and inadequacies out on their spouse, but on a little kid? There's a place in hell reserved for monsters like that.

And now I would worry about that boy's kid and how the abuse might be perpetuated. I do feel sorry for Mitch and can understand his guilt in not doing something when he could.

This was a well-written but heartbreaking chapter, Gretchen.

So, so sad. I just can't understand people who beat their kids senseless, mind you the boy should know that Mitch meant well, but of course hatred doesn't reason, and unless he forgives Mitch, the monster in the room remains, beautifully written Gretchen. Blessings Roy

Yep, Mitch has a ghost that will haunt him forever. I am betting this will come back later in this story. I really enjoy reading this.

But he had designs on one girl, her name wasJen. (was Jen)

I imagine some think the friend he didn't stop for beating his kid up would be something Mitch might have regrets about. i wondering if there will be more in this book about the friend. I look forward to more.

I bought that book, Gretchen, it was so sad. I can see why Mitch would be so upset. That it could be a true story also brings it home. This was a sad, but very well written chapter, capturing his emotions exactly how I would have imagined, and expected. It deserves a six, as do all your stories. I was giving them away without realising it on Sunday. Its been an emotional time for me, it was the first anniversay of my brothers death yesterday, and I've been a bit of a slobbering wreck. I'll be back in control soon.
I thought this chapter was exceptional, my friend. Love and hugs, Sandra xxx

That's probably the worst kind of ghost - the one that triggers guilt and deepest regrets. Poor Mitch wanted to believe the best in his friend but didn't know how much he really needed medical help mentally. A sad chapter. I wonder how Miranda will help Mitch with this.
