Oh, such a beautiful message as a contest entry here, my lady! ;) Love the reminder to 'be brave' for so many are not... Thanx for sharing that encouragement and best of luck in the contest! ;) Yvette

Love this, Beth! I think we all took to writing in hopes we'd stir a soul, bring a smile, strike a nerve, encourage change, or simply share our perceptions. It's always an act of bravery to put our words out there. Some may misunderstand. Some may not "get it" at all. Ah, but if we touch one soul, we've succeeded!

Thank you, Karenina. I always found I would get my point across better in writing than any other way. I can organize my thoughts with without just arguing about it. I appreciate your comments.

Great entry for the "20 Syllable Poem contest" I like the presentation too. Good syllables count and connection between lines.

Why do we write? Personally, I think there are many reasons. Some have something to say. Others want to share their thoughts, dreams, and families. Many just want to hangout with likeminded people, or not feel alone; although, writing might be the most solitary thing we can do. But whatever the reason, I'm glad there are writers like you. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you, Ric. I don't mind doing things alone with no one around to bother me. I write because I can express myself better in writing than in arguing or complaining about a problem. Especially if it is a boss or a company that I want understand where I'm coming from.

That is probably one of the hardest things to do when you first start writing. Sharing something so personal. It is the complete opposite once you've been putting yourself out there. You'll read your stuff to a mannequin if you have to. Your poem was spot on. Why not share your gift. Gretchen

Thanks, Gretchen. Yes, at first we are unsure of what people might think of what we write and are shy about expressing ourselves around strangers, but like you say we gain confidence and want to to react.

Nice and concise. I think some of us never made a choice. I have always written. I never felt there was a choice involved. It is like an addiction. Good writing. Karen

Thank Karen, I tend to believe those of who have written all our lives were born with a gift not everyone has. For me, I don't have the gift of gab and writing was just the way I've always found easiest to in which to express myself.

I have a big mouth too. My health was always fitful, and I did not have the best luck in husbands, but I love my kids and have family and friends. I will be okay. Karen

You are doubly gifted but like all of us, you're had your difficulties to deal with.

We all cope however we can. My friends here keep me sane. Some days that is a hard job. :-)

Thank you for sharing this contest entry with us. Yes, we need to remember why we chose to write. If we lose sight of that, then I believe writing isn't fun any longer. Good luck with the contest.

Thank you, Barbara. I think it is good idea to remember why we started writing and where we hoped it might lead. You are one of the success stories since you have an agent and continued to produce popular books.

This twenty-syllable poem, Why Do We Write, has the proper formatting and sometimes is truthful response would be "I don' really know." But -- you know.

Thank you, Bill. I think most of us feel driven to put something out for others to comment on. Not many people feel compelled to write

I've been writing since I was nine, that was how old I was when I wrote my first book so for twenty years now. I love creating worlds and characters and stories for people to invest in. A well written piece, Beth, I enjoyed reading it.

Writing has always fascinated me do. I stared early too but I admire you for completing a book. A course a love of book helps as well. Although all on the sight are those who enjoy writing but outside of this site I only know a couple of people who write.
