This was hilarious. I giggled all the way through it. You did a wonderful job of telling it. I think these girls deserve a dog to keep the cat company while everyone at work. I know dogs need at least a fenced yard and the cat can't go outside. Hamsters never worked for me. They are bad about escaping.

Haha! Despite Andrew's strong resistance, I still expected two hamsters to pop out of the sandwich bag. But I very much admire his strong stance. The conversation was wonderful and, although unique to this situation, still reminds me of how much our communications can so often be misunderstood or misconstrued. There are edits here:
Is (it) going to snow...
I (don't) get this and we're not getting a hamster...
As he closed (the) door...
(5th line from the bottom) E(l)eanor
Thanks for sharing, Barbara. Take care Debbie

This is such a cute story. I love how the little girls dwell on getting a hamster and they misunderstood the words "New Hampshire". Excellent dialog here and a fun story to read.

I enjoyed it. I love when a child gets an idea in their head and like a pit bull they get so obsessed they can't think of anything else. This was adorable with the children chiming in, ignoring the obvious problem of dad not being on board. Lol. Great story. Gretchen

Thank you for the understand. Andrew is very stubborn but in a very patient way.

He hesitated as he thinks.
Tense glitch
Oh, dear! I can see just how this developed. I know someone who proposes something involving someone else then assumes it will happen (without consulting the other person). Thanks for this chapter. I cheered me up no end during my procrastination time!

A very humorous story. You could almost have entered it as a "Dialogue Only Story". Thanks for the notes at the bottom which added reality to the tale. I'll look forward to more of this.

A good image and story to go with it. Very good dialogue from everyone in the car on their way home. All it took was one misunderstood word, and hamster it was! The back and forth is very good, each girl giving her preferences and colors for their hamster, since each one needed one. It's funny how children can go from one topic and quickly change to another one.
They also have a good memory even though they a few things confused. It is a good thing that they do remember the places and things they have seen.
Is Andrew always calm? He didn't raise his voice or let the girls know about his frustration. The girls were definitely persistent, especially when they stopped for sandwiches and thought a hamster was in the bag.
I love Eleanor's comment about not wanting lunch, Andrew's about being the only normal one in the family, and finally Katie's about having boys.
I don't think there are too many dull moments in your family. I enjoyed reading this.

This is a really cute story you have penned about the two little girls wanting a hamster each. You used great descriptive words and great imagery from your words also. The picture of the hamster is very cute! I can see why the girls wanted one, but we have cats also so we don't have fish or hamsters either! love and blessings, Teri

Hi Barbara, it's a delightful little story and the fight to get to a hamster or two. But Andrew wins the day. No hamster is entering the house.
In various places you need to add a 'the'. All best, Ulla xcx

I never edit these as much as I do my novels. I'll go back and reread. Thank you for the kind review.

Actually I agree with you, I think it's a mistake not owning pets when kids are young, they won't be acquainted with that level of love at an early age, we are terribly influenced by our environment when young. Ive always loved animals from childhood, they are great companions, beautifully written Barbara, blessings Roy

They do have a cat, LC, and just two weeks ago, lost a cat, Max, to old age. Thank you for the kind review.
-
That's good, nothing like a dog though, we owned scores of both.
-
They had a dog. Well, Katie had a dog before her and Andrew ever met. Wyatt died when Eleanor was a baby.
-
OH, I didn't know that.
