Oh, but how true those short but meaningful words are, sir! A great choice of topic and great execution for such a limited contest! ;) Thanx for sharing and best of luck! :-)

I liked this until the word "faded" because I don't think of scabs that way. Scars, yes; scabs, no. What about "unhealed" scabs? Same number of syllables, but an edgier thought.
As far as the rhetorical question, I think the answer is "because the newer generations aren't paying attention anymore." Or maybe they think, "Well, that could never happen TODAY!" That's why my tribesmen made it our credo, after the Holocaust, to "never forget." And even so, look what's happening today with the modern perception of Israelis. As if Hamas did nothing to provoke them. No initiating of violence, no provocation of the Israelis' safety and/or security, right? Just out of nowhere and for no reason whatsoever, those horrible Israelis just attacked those poor, sweet, innocent, peace-loving Palistinians! Today's perceptions are like those of a really bad soccer ref: they see the retaliatory slide tackle, but not the one from the offender that started it all.

Now that one goes right to the jugular and I applaud you! Yes, Honest with the shake of a hand disappeared long ago and now we fear what those hands can do as they tug at wounds that once were laid to rest. Well done!
Hugs, Carol
