Here's to Mrs. Whipple, one of the many mostly nameless and faceless teachers who give the profession a shot in the arm by becoming that mentor at the right moment.
There is a saying of when the student is ready the teacher will appear.

I had my share of bad teachers in catholic school, who gave me nightmares.

Oh, you were so lucky to find a teacher who encouraged you. I had the opposite experience. A teacher told me I would never make it as a writer and I believe him. Didn't write for twenty years. This was wonderful. Gretchen
