Hi Jill, and thank you so very much for finding this one and reviewing it with such kind comments. You are right about every day is a school day. Actually I have made it a life challenge to never go to bed without learning one new thing every day.
So I was thinking that Mother's Day was started by big card companies like Hallmark. So I googled it and was shocked to see that how it really was.
She was actually so upset about it being so overly commercialized that when she was at a restaurant, she threw her salad on the floor when she learned that they named it the Mother's Day special after she always had that one.
Thanks so much, Jill. You are too sweet and I am so happy we have become such good friends. Love, Debi

Hi Debi, sorry for the late reply. I've been trying to get through my inbox and found your poem. I guess that I was busy doing my own celebrating on Mother's Day and then recuperating for days after.
Your poem reads and flows well, and your message is clear. This is a wonderful tribute to Mothers, and all those who "mother" on this very special day. Also, your poem is a tribute and puts the spotlight on
Anna Jarvis who started this fine tradition.
Great photo choice. Well done. Xo. M

I like to consider myself a dog mom and, of course, an aunt. This poem was charming and informative. I know the holiday has become a bit too commercialized, but it's still a good day. My mother only asked for a note this year. I wrote her a poem and a note. Thank you for sharing, and best wishes to you.

Oh, thank you so much, Jessi. Yes, I agree to but we do all deserve a day to be pampered. Even you aunties!! Because that is a love that is truly selfless, and you do a lot to help the kiddos. Based on the stories I have read of your anyway!! Thank you for that. Thanks again for the great review. Love, Debi

Comment from Wayne Fowler
Very nicely composed, well written.
I had no idea (but should have) that Mother's Day (or should it really be Mothers' Day?) had an author/originator.
It's too bad that it causes anguish to a very large segment of women though - those whose children died, or were taken from them, as well as those who never bore children for a myriad of reasons.
But this was a very thoughtful tribute to Anna Jarvis
Best wishes.

Hi there Wayne, kind of a peculiar time to proclaim Mother's Day, after she buries her mom, but I guess it was a way to honor her wishes. I agree that it isn't always easy, but mothers don't mind sharing their children with these childless mothers then they shouldn't mind sharing the day. And yes, it was hard on my sister for years when she lost my niece to leukemia at 13. I still tear up as I tell you, but that doesn't mean others should go without recognition.
Anyway, thanks for the kind comments and for the review, my friend.
And you are a friend with Bill S, right? Well tomorrow is his birthday and what a fascinating man and life he has led. Make sure to check out his poem, because he is very hard to put into a normal length poem.

So Anna started it the day that she knew she would mourn
So Anna started it the day she knew she would mourn
I suggest dropping the "that" as above, but then, my dialect isn't exactly like yours so I might be wrong.
Thanks for enlightening us all about Mother's Day. We celebrate it down under as well.

Hi Sallyo, thanks so much for the lovely review and comments.
I notice that you are a novelist and I do write some prose to and try to leave the word, 'that' out as much as possible when writing stories, etc.
However, when writing poetry in rhyme and meter, as I do, those words like that, and, so, when, etc, etc are necessary in order to keep it in meter and flowing smoothly. I could maybe substitute it for 'when', but just to take 'that' out would completely stop the poem in its tracks. And the one thing you don't want to do when writing (especially story poems) is to stop the flow. It is hard enough to put all the words in the right place and still make sense without ruining the meter. Does 'that' make sense? LOL
Thanks, my friend for the great review, and I am always happy when someone takes the time to ask questions. Love, Debi

An interesting account of the origins of Mother's day in the US.
It's different in the UK and was rooted in the 16th century and tied up with Easter timing so not the same day each year.
Lovely poem, Debi.

Hi Gaye, thanks so much for the lovely review of this MD story. It is kind of unusual, but it is a fact. I thought it interesting because I have never heard it before. Had you ever heard of this before?
