This is well written and I especially like the internal rhyming. That's not always easy to do. Many a parent will identify with you and what you have to say. Both aunts and uncles would agree that it all happens too soon. I remember how close my nephew and I were, but then when he became a teenager, I lost track of him. He just lived down the street from me but he was always gone somewhere. Ironically now he's 50, and he is using me as a mentor. So they will come back, just when.

Hi Liz, thanks for the kind words for this poem, my sweet friend. I appreciate it so very much. I love that you can relate in some way with your nephew.
I appreciate you always my very dear friend.
I was just going to write you a pm, but think I will just tell you here. I hope to come and find that story that tells about your awesome accomplishments. You are a very talented writer and I am excited for this one. I know I used to be able to review you long ago before the shingles in my eyes and they limited my screen time and now I have to write all my posts on paper. That is because now I barely have enough screen time allowed for thanking reviewers. Pain in the butt, but it does something to my eyes. Anyway, I still recall those awesome posts about your husband in the nursing home, about when he passed and then the young man who used to help you and how you became part of their family. I love your writing and I am coming over to see you as I am looking forward to it very much.
-
Sending you healing on all levels regarding your shingles. I had shingles too and it has just left me with a lot of eczema and neuropathy around my arms
-
I have had shingles four times and they are horrible. But the worst that I was talking about is I got them in my eyes and it really did a number on them. But thankful I can see as well as I can. Night is bad cause it hurt the retinas so all lights area multiplied by at least ten to 100 times. I never travel at night anymore. I can't handle the lights coming at the car even if isn't me driving. So I just close my eyes when we do have to go places. I know you like to go back into portfolios, and if you ever want to read a story about it, it is called, "I see Ferris Wheels"
-
ok. I will check that one out.

What a lovely, big family you have, who love you back and love to visit.
Did you make up the Merry ~Go~ Rhyme form of poetry? If so, aren't you the clever one! Two different rhythms--like you said--the up and down of a carousel. What fun!
You look too young to have grandkids those ages! I bet they are a joy!
Great poem and a delight to read!

Hi Debi...have now been around for quite some time. But I am still a recipient of your poetry, I read your poem it explains in beautiful lines our evolution from just beginning the parenting journey and suddenly the reality that we become grandparents. Yes, those wings are so precious. My teenage grandkids now have so many activities that the "sheet tents" seem historical, getting ready to drive next year, joining the national swim team, and on and on. Suddenly, you realize that the white hair is a journal of years gone by and they become our torch bearers. Their "wonder" anoints us with courage to always follow their paths.

Oh Michael, it has been so long. I was responding to many others but had to put you to the front when I saw your name again. It is so very good to hear from you again.
Sounds like you are going through a lot to the same feelings that I have about the grandkids growing up as fast as our children did. I mean I am still in my 60s, barely, but my goodness, this is my grandma's age. What the heck happened. LOL.. yet, I am with you. I would not trade one minute with those precious kids. After all, I wouldn't be writing about it if they weren't' so very loved.
Thanks so much for all your kind comments, dear friend. And so good to see you again, Michael. Love, Debi

Very nice artwork an presentation. Thanks for the notes about your family and the poem form. You wrote a very good tribute to your kids and grandkids who are either adults or in their teens.
I know what you mean about growing up happening way too fast. But we always have to let them have their wings, and are still proud of what they have become. Now you have grandchildren who are also a little older, but not too old yet. I'm glad you have them to write about and share experiences with even though they aren't there all of the time.
Very well done.

Hi Pam, I thank you so very much for the very kind review for my empty nest poem. The older I get, the more nostalgic I have become so I write about it so I don't drive my family crazy. LOL.
I appreciate all of your kind words. Thanks again, my very dear friend.

nice tribute poems to kids and grand kids. You have been blessed with both, I never had children. Sometimes I think what life would have been if I had children.

Such a sweet remembrance of years gone by, and relatable to all us older grandmas. Young mothers think they have lots of time, but life is shorter than we realize. Thank you for writing this beautiful piece, it's very personal but almost a tribute to all the grandmothers out there. You sound like a wonderflul and fun grandma.
Write on!

Hi Debi,
Jade and I have an empty nest that has never been occupied... I miss that part of my life... and sometimes it's rather heartbreaking if I dwell on the thought too long, so I try not to. But the absence of grandchildren brings a whole new level of emptiness... but this is not about me, now is it!
From what I'm reading within the story of the beautiful rhymed and flowing Merry-go-rhyme, the two layers of love you had to share... firstly of your children and then your grandchildren have been shrouded in love and care. Sounds like the monika Grandma, sits well with you... and I know how much fun and love you would bring into all of their lives. You had me at treats!
Yes, I love Kenzie's artwork. She is very talented, is this her artwork attached?. And thank you for introducing me to the rest of your beautiful tribe.
Wow Grandma... it won't be too long before they may include Great-Grandma to your title? Just sayin'!
Truly beautiful poem Debi... loved reading it. It gave me a real sense of belonging... yes, there was a moment of loss... but those birds of yours are circling you and now they have brought their chicks... well, not recently, as your youngest is now twelve.
Much love Grandma!
With our thoughts we create...
memories that last.
Warmest regards,
James.

Thank you, thank you, James, my fine friend. I appreciate your kind words, but my heart does ache every time I think of you and Jade being childless. It is that feeling of helplessness and I can't think of anyone who would have made a better father. I never take my role as matriarch of the family for granted. However, my children I think were relieved when I started writing again, because I wasn't smothering them with "I love you so much" text messages ten times a day. Now it is only half that much.
No, just kidding, but I do have a heart that breaks easily and that's because I put it right out there for all to see and attack. People like us who wear them on our sleeve, are easy targets. I have a feeling you can hold your own tho.
And just so you know, Kenzie did not do that art. But I will let you know next time I use one of hers.
Thanks for the awesome review, my very dear friend. Love, Debi

I can just imagine the love you share with and for your children and grandchildren... you made me smile, I thank you for that... only half as much texting now. yes, you are a delight dear lady D. Don't ever worry about being who you are... wear your heart upon your sleeve. People can not harm you, only you can allow them to harm you. Attack is always just lurking in the shadows... the weak grey entities who test our resolve... we are armoured up with the power of pure love my dear friend... I say give it your best go grey sludge:))

I did enjoy the carousel effect of this! I've not experienced the empty nest myself but I remember clearly when I left home at seventeen and my parents found the transition difficult. I was an only child. Fortunately they had each other and my cat to keep them company! :)

No rest for you grandma. You started this family and now look what has happened. Soon you'll be a great-grandma. One day the family will think you're snoozing in your nest, and then they realise you are out jitterbugging with Elvis. K xx

Hahahaha! I almost woke up my husband in the next room, I was laughing so hard when I read this.
You know, Kace, you should write a column for the newspaper. You could brighten many days instead of just friends who love you. I am serious. You are a natural.
Thanks dear friend for your always fun and sunshine for my posts and making me laugh with your comments. And for the great gift of six stars, my awesome friend. Love ya lots!! Debi

I love winding you up. Aussie sense of humor is so laid back and it takes a while to get the gist of what we talk about. I wish we could have a cuppa and a donut in Trump's Palace. Hee, Hee.

HAHAHAHA! I would love it!
Let's make a date for in Heaven someday!! But not too soon! LOL.
