Hi Regina,
This is a heartfelt poem about the mistakes we all make in love. It seems if you were more committed this would have been the one for you. The yellow roses are a good metaphoric memory of him.
Keep writing and stay healthy.
Congrats on placing second in the contest.

I somehow missed reading this poem earlier, but want to congratulate you on your win. It is beautifully written, with imagery that could have been painted by an artist, and words only a lover could pen. It is exquisite.

The description of those "butter-yellow roses" lured me in... At once I felt the melancholy of joyful memories mixed with that tonic we all must sip through our lives ~ a bit of regret perhaps? Or minimally, "What If?"
Muck like the poetess you've paid tribute to, you have a Susan Ashley "feel" about your work.
Something I want to sit with...sip a cup of tea...and remember.

I have some regrets in my
life, but I know the Lord is
with me. I find that writing is
a release of emotions and
really helps. I'm so pleased
you like these poems, and it's
so sweet of you to give me
5 stars. Thank you.

A sad one of the love long past. A stinging thorn from the yellow rose of love in free verse poetry. Wonderfully written and composed for the contest. Sending you my best today as always and best wishes for the upcoming contest.
