I don't know why this chapter wasn't sent to my mailbox as they are all supposed to, but if I hadn't stumbled across it, I wouldn't have got to read it. Thanks for sharing.

You did a great job focusing on the recovery of the cars
at the -pond, Gretchen. I enjoyed reading it. I felt like I
was there watching everything due to your great descriptions.
I hope Aaron isn't to let down when the identities of the car
individuals is discovered. Miranda's comment about Aaron's
great uncle trying to please his father and have him be proud
was telling. That seems to be what Waylon hopes for too. I liked
the way Mitch and Miranda seem to be falling for each other.
Thanks for sharing, Jan

I think that went pretty smoothly, and the fact that the trunks were full of booze tells a piece of the (why). Mitch and Miranda are heating up at a good clip. I'm looking forward to the next chapter. Best, JohnC

There are a lot of kids who need their parents to like them. That's for sure. Thank you for sharing this with us. I can't wait to see who the three bodies are and I'm glad Miranda agreed to have lunch with Mitch.
He still hasn't completely forgiven me for calling in Mitch but, (move comma to after 'Mitch)
"I'm sure he likes you, Aaron," I laugh. (period needed after 'Aaron')

Awwww, did you have to quit there? One body in one car and two in the other. Makes me wonder if Missy's hubby had a girl friend. LOL Of course I am only guessing one of the cars contains Missy's husband. It's just my mind playing it forward. You are doing a great job. The feelings she and Mitch have for each other and the prayer at the end. Nice touches. Thumbs up to you too, Gretchen. Your characters are real. Nancy:)

Wow. Excellent writing. Great story continuing.Miranda is true to her cool tough self when she says " a girl's gotta eat". It keeps the tough exterior, but you let us see her vulnerability as well. I am just wondering if perhaps the single body in the car might be Missy's husband. If so, then it will be on for one and all! Feeling for all those kids who just want to be liked by their dads. Why is it so hard? Hence I like the thought-provoking aspects, as well the insightful astute understanding of human nature.

I love Miranda's response to being asked to lunch. Totally Miranda is her, "A girl's gotta eat."!
Your extra star is for the repetition of the subtextual need we all have for love.
Great job!

Ohhh, Gretchen. This one is so excellent. It has the regular Miranda pluck, plus an ever-bigger dose of soft, deep-down good, sweet side, too. It shows so beautifully why she "gets" Waylon so well...and is so understanding and patient with Aaron, too, despite his tendency to be goofy and kind of obnoxious. I just love Miranda; she's definitely one of those diamond-in-the-rough kinds of girls. She never seems to lose her goodness.
This was really exciting to read --lots of anticipation and excitement-- very well played. I also loved Waylong's (non)response when the sheriff asked if it was a school holiday. Lol. He's definitely learning some street smarts from Miranda!!
Two little edits:
**In the paragraph that begins "One of the Police divers..." I don't think 'police' needs a capital.
**In the paragraph that begins "Both Waylon and Mitch looks over at me," 'looks' is singular, but 'both' is plural. So, it should be 'look.'
Everything else is letter perfect!! As always, I'm looking forward to the next installment. xo

You did really well with this. Premium writing in my book. Great descriptions of the car contents and the drama of them coming up. I look forward to where this is going. Including the romance with Miranda and Mitch. One spag right near the end...want their pa[t](r)ents to like them.
Do you remember Bob Hartson? (Mastery) he was a favourite writer more in the deeper romance and Murder mystery bent, sadly died a while ago.

I have since corrected the spag but thank you for catching it. I do remember him. Some of his scenes were a bit graphic for me but I agree, he was a gifted writer. Thank you for this awesome rating and great review. Gretchen

Miranda deserves her luck to change, she's playing ex-officio parent to other People's kids, surely she deserves justice in a world that tends to not have them, this is beautifully written as always Gretchen, great sensitivity, and perhaps a little romantic inclination? So well done, blessing Roy
Typo : The other kids who want their (patents) to like them. Parents?
