I agree with you that the promotion business is just that - a business. It amazes me those who post every day and promote their work pretty far up the ladder. They must either pay a fortune or spend their whole time critiquing.
However, I love this site and really enjoy some of the people I've met.

Excellent entry for the Why I Write writing prompt contest. Good form. You followed the rules of the contest well.
Writing is a good way to get your feelings on paper and out of your mind.

This essay, Why I Write, covers a lot of area that I'm sure all motivated writers can agree with. I do hate having a great idea fizzle for lack of jotting it down. The Fanstory game is what I like. Reviewing for points and pumping the postings that I want read. I have sent out two-cent postngs just to keep my hand in.

An interesting and thoughtful essay! I totally agree with you about those who over-promote their mediocre work in order to get lots of reviews and move up the standings. I will not enter into that game - I prefer to keep my self-respect and integrity. Some work offering small amounts of review money is far better than many paying a whole lot more. I tend to stick to the middle range. Offer an incentive for people to review, and pay them for their time and constructive input, but not excessive. Glad to see there are others who feel likewise.

Wow! your output seems high to me. I have been on FS for two and a half years, and have posted 327 pieces - and I have the impression I write non-stop. Otherwise, I can identify with what you write. I too feel the itch, and the sense of devastation if I lose a piece of writing before it is transferred to paper.
