This is an interesting poem that the author has created with this piece of work. This is an extremely beautiful post and it makes me feel warm inside. There are indeed angels here on earth who make life worthwhile. However, there are also devils. :-)

This poem shows the woman's love and perseverance. It also shows the man's love.
But I see no lyrics about him stopping drinking as you say he does in your notes.
It is a well beginning and middle but I think you need another verse to complete the story.

Keep writing

These are good lyrics for Country and Western.
I tried to sing them to a simple C&W beat and that was pretty good. Since I'm not musically inclined, the fact that it worked for me says it's going to work with a proper score.
The story is very clear and the sentiments of twisted drunken soul and a loyal, admiring attitude to the long suffering wife, fits the genre perfectly. There's a story to be shared and emotion to underpin the plot. Loved the chorus. Really catchy and perfect for this.
They say there's no such thing as angels, well, my woman's wearing wings.
She's the rock that I still lean on. The gold inside our wedding rings.
The only peace I find here in the valley is when she gives herself to me.
There may be no such thing as angels but I got one here with me. ..
Yeah, very nice.

It would appear I have become a fan of your lyrics reading back on your list I think in fact I KNOW I have reviewed three previous posts.
This one is the best so far,
I hope music will be added to your muse

You have wrote about a good strong marital bond where two imperfect people love each other. I loved reading this well written poem.

This reminds me of the Johnny Cash number: "Put the Bottle on the Table" if only because of the common theme - the demon drink. That was a slow number, I sense that this will be taken at a faster place. If you have tunes for these and your other lyrics, why don't you post an audio clip with lyric post? On the other hand if you don't then you need to team up with a country music composer because your stuff is too good to remain unheard in the medium for which it was written.

This work has reached the exceptional level

We have an engaging voice presenting us with a beautiful, down-to-earth poem. He was also probably a philosopher in another life. Despite his human failings he determinedly hangs on to his positive stance as is personified by his woman. So in spite of the heartbreaking situation he has created, over and over again, we are left inspired. The cadence has a jaunty rhythm suggesting defiance. I think our poet is still searching for the light at the end of the tunnel and I think his wife understands him. -Ekin777

'No Such Things As Angels' is an extremely well-written and thought-provoking piece. To have an angel is to be truly blessed. It was a pleasure to both read and review a work of this standard.

Hi Brett, these truly are the most wonderful lyrics, the repeat chorus is also excellent, I personally would have liked to hear them set to music my friend, perhaps later.
