Hmmm, oh talented one - get ready to rake in the funny money, I suspect!

Your poem is horrifying enough to start with, but your final lines make it even more terrible by dragging it screaming back to reality.

Nobody does this better....

Thanks very much, Steve, and I really appreciate your complimentary review. However, the other poem I read called Many Coats of Skin is also very, very good. I also know who wrote it (I found out purely by accident) and he's pretty darn successful in contests, has a lot of fans. Far more than I do. So, I'm not counting my funny money just yet, as I have never beaten him.

As for why the editor placed this in the prose category, I have no clue. I went to "submit your entry", posted my work, and discovered it was placed in the prose section for whatever reason. I clearly listed it as poetry, so I'm going to have to contact Tom to see what happened there.

Thanks so much again for your feedback and exceptional rating of six stars. Much obliged!

this ended up being categorized as prose/fiction instead of poetry
solid rhyming couplets
vivid details that add to the horror - draining one's blood, for instance
good alliteration and assonance in sapless savage
and in body to the bone
what a compelling, dramatic, sobering reveal of who is speaking in the end

Thanks you very much for your review, Brooke, and I am still trying to figure that one out. While I was entering the contest, it took me to this editor. I listed it as poetry, yet it still was placed in the prose section and I had absolutely no control over that. Have you got any ideas how that may have happened, or how I can correct it?

I have no clue! This is one that calls for Tom's expertise :-)

Hi,

Hmmmm, she has an issue or two. Just sayin'! Perhaps she knows Freddie Krueger?

Really well done. Good luck in the contest. As Rocky would say, 'this is a contender'!

Cheers & Blessings

Ha ha, thank you, Jax. Yeah, it's probably safe to assume that she's got more than a few issues, LOL. I'm still tryin' to figure out why it put this poem in the prose category. I clearly listed it as a poem, yet here it is! The wonders of modern technology never cease to infuriate me, LOL!

    Thanks so much again.

I wondered that too when it popped up. The 'horrors' of, as you say 'modern technology.' I swear gremlins get inside my computer at will, just to torment me, because they know they CAN! ('-') Cheers!

this has excellent imagery, mystery writer, the thoughts of suicide that won't let loose and finally claims its victim as the blood runs free. I wish you the best of luck in the contest

Oh, what a bloodthirsty piece. The focus of your poem seems to be blood and lots of it which adds to the horror. You answered the challenge well and I wish you the best in the competition.

Thanks so much for reading it, Giddy. I truly appreciate your review and generous rating.

I can't for the life of me figure out why it is placed in the prose section, but that is where it put me after I entered the contest and posted and promoted it. I still can't figure that one out yet.

Thanks so much again! I'll probably need all of the luck that I can get!

Wow!! I am at a loss for words. The pic was perfect for the poem. Your choice of words fell together like melted butter. Finding out at the end that you had given a personality to suicide was a great twist and surprise. I enjoyed it very much.

Thanks very much, prefabmouse., I truly appreciate your very complimentary review and wonderful six star rating, my friend. This one took an entirely different direction than was originally intended. I'm very happy that you enjoyed it!

Your signature is in your lines. Still and all, it is horror-filled, suspenseful and didn't end at all like I thought it would.

With your last lines you dipped me unexpectedly into a depth of profundity while I was content to bounce among the waves above.

Good job!

Thanks, Jay, and I apologize for not having promoted this yet. I thought I had could attach a poetry certificate to it, yet it would not allow me to. It has to be a prose cert, which I don't understand as this is a poetry contest.

Still, I very much appreciate you reading and reviewing it for me for a paltry two cents. That means more to me than even those lovely six stars you gave me!

    Thanks so much again, Jay.
