Chilling! I'd heard of the legend, as my mother is of Irish descent... but not as completely as you put it in your Author's Notes. I always come away from one of your posts having learned something!
I've been in graveyards at night quite often... (weird) me, I find solace there...
I had an apartment in my late teens and early 20s, about a half mile from the largest cemetery in Evansville, Indiana. And every Hallowen, some buddies and I would split apart, fortified with whatever we chose to bring.. booze, weed, etc... and haunt each other all night. We'd agree to meet at sunrise at a certain point outside the cemetery, and see who had the guts to stay all night. Needless to say, I did, every year...
I have a piece written for this contest, but it's not a scary one... more a love poem... but I'm waiting until Halloween itself to post it. I wrote it last Halloween, before I joined FS.

Another Dean picturepoem, EXCELLENT!!!!
Wow, Dean, what an amazing story! I read the author's notes and was enthralled. And the poem...smacks of Ireland and of ghosts and bones--chilled me to my spine. I loved the music that accompanied this one: very appropriate Irish melody.
Dean is the BEST!
I wish I had saved a six for this one but it's week's end. Still I humbly grant thee ten stars:

This is a friendly execution of rhyme not to mention the humour that by and large did not encroach on the cadence. We all love a good tale and this one did not disappoint us. I marvel at the popularity of Halloween. Humanity will always nurse a morbid streak. Nice work. -Ekim777

There are quite a few stories about evil doings in Ireland and Scotland from long ago. Best to stay away from some of those eerie places at night. I have been to a graveyard at night in Savannah, but nothing really happened. Took the kids on a ghost tour just for fun. Lots of history there too. Great piece. The music and the crows cawing were perfect for this. I always do love your talent. It's nothing short of brilliant.

Hah, me? Fortunately, I feel I am nowhere close to being Fanstory's top writer, because if I did, I would probably quit trying so hard to be just that, (LOL!)
I am glad to know that YOU feel that way, though Terry!

MY my my what a trip this was to read. You are a great story teller in a poemly way to boot.
Your lines with all the terrific rhymes have a sing song beat to them that speed the reader along to find out what the hell happens to this boy.
So did you go out on Halloween and stay away from graveyards?
Bet you loved to scare the shit out of the girls. lol
Thxs so much for taking the time to write the essay in your notes about the main guy Robert and what his legend entails.
see you at the contest booth and good luck

Thank you, Karen. I almost passed on the contest. I do very well with contests voted on by fellow writers, but horribly in contests voted on by the Fanstory Committee. Still, I just could not pass this up!

You do such a good job with both the author notes and the poem.
It's a scary legend and you've done it justice with a little twist: Your Robert takes the bones and brings them to life in the town square!
Great rhyming quatrains, Dean. I'm in the mood for Halloween now. :) e

As always, your work is exceptional, the poem a story unto itself, and scary. After reading the background, it made the poem even more so. A great read. Good luck in the contest.
