And even as Father Brian spoke the words of absolution, repugnant images insinuated themselves into the priest's subconscious like freeloading relatives. (Great line!)
"I'm as jumpy as a cricket, Alyx. You feelin' it, too?(") Forgot the closing quotation marks.
Normally he avoided the spring of secrets that formed the nucleus of his internal life. Although he'd experienced moments of otherworldly bliss from fasting and extended prayer, the come-down to a leaden, gray world was the sheer hell of a 'dry' junkie. He preferred the indifference of purgatory. (Whoa...here's some pretty heavy insight into the good Father. Nicely done, Bev. You'e just painted him in about twenty-five shades of Technicolor).
Oooo, creepy ending. Nicely done! This is a great story because I never know what is going to happen next. And, I love your characters. You write them as if I could reach out and touch them!!
