Hi Terry, you didn't seem to fall to far from the stem. This is really funny. I think you took your Granny so by surprise that she failed to react. Good luck in the contest with this little gem. Ulla:)))

Back in the day, that's what parents did when children said bad words. Parents taught kids morals and respect. I feel many today to day to not have either. Thank you for sharing this contest entry with us. I enjoyed reading and agree. Good luck.

Fun. You had me laughing out loud. Reminded me of a time I asked Grandma the same thing, but my dad's story was about hitch-hiking and the trouble he got into. Might write that one up. You're an inspiration. Thanks for the post

What a great story I know I was sometimes threatened with having my mouth washed out with soap but can't ever remember it being done. Thanks so much for sharing.

Hello Terry Broxson,
Nice piece of Biographical Non-Fiction having lucid as well as perfectly matching the theme phraseology, captivating flow throughout from the beginning to the end, and beautifully depicting its theme in an interesting way - A true story to a fourteen-year-old boy about his Dad by his Dad's mother i.e. his Granny, Lovely Presentation!

A very humorous entry for the True Story flash! I can just imagine your own shock when you realised what you had just said and to whom! You crafted it carefully, and the punch-line was done so very well. Best wishes for your entry.

This is a well written piece of true story flash, Terry. I'm sure there are many adults who were children in those days that can relate to having their mouths washed out with soap. Good luck in the contest.

This was funny on 2 counts - you told your personal situation well by building up to the punchline, and it was a reminder of the same situation happening to my brother, when Mum administered the bar of soap because of his language.
Corrections:
collar,(add space here)dragged
you did that to dad?" (cap D for dad)

That's funny, especially with your little kicker at the end. A good use of irony. You don't hear of kids getting their mouths washed out with soap as they did in the past. The old lye soap could really have caused some internal damage to a child if he swallowed any of it. This is a good entry for the contest. Good luck, Terry.

Reads well, and is very kid-like. And of course, kids do say the darndest things when you least expect it. By the by, did you get the same treatment as your dad? Dish soap with a raw food oil that can be consumed, rich in nutrients and vitamins. Hope you win.
