Willie, that's a good story with a great character, and I love that the fence was named after Charlie.
I'm surprised, though, that you didn't break it up into stanzas, as it would've been easier to read and to get the rhythm.
Also, you might want to look at the beginning, on the 6th line down, it should be thought instead of though.
I like the picture of old Charlie on the fence. A good one.

This was a great story, Willie. I enjoyed reading it.
The words flowed smoothly with great rhymes and
imagery. You described Charlie perfectly. I could see
everything you mentioned. Yes, Charlie was a hero
in his younger days and remained a hero forever despite
not receiving the acclaim he was used to. You were right
about how youngsters needed heroes like Charlie to look
up to.
Thanks for sharing, Jan

I loved this, Willie! Charlie seemed to be a lost soul. A soul that only the ages remember. He ended up with some tragedy in his life, but despite that, he became a legend and is remembered by Charlie's fence. Best, JohnC

Cute little story, and aren't we all yell to the young generation on my time:"Once in a while he yells at a cowboy,
About how it was done in his day.
We let him do what he wants
And ask his advice now and then.
harlie's no bother, he's a hero to us.
We consider him a man among me"

Your writing is very unique here. I like the story being told in rhyme. The reader would like to meet Charlie and listen to his stories of being in the rodeo. The image of Charlie sitting on a fence brings forth his personality and character. Excellent writing here.

i enjoyed this so very much! I love anything cowboy. This country is forgetting its true heroes and examples. i used to visit "western towns" but most are3 gone, now. Thank you for paying tribute to old Charlie.

That was so lovely, and sad in a way. Now too old to do what he loved, a rodeo rider, he sits on the fence remembering all the glorious days he lived through. We all come to that stage in our lives, but we also have the memories. I enjoyed this poem, it flowed so easily, it was a pleasure to read. :)) Sandra x

It is posted under 'featured Stories', though it is a rhyming poem .It is well crafted and tells the story of Charlie who used to sit on his favorite fence reliving his moments of glory.
Very nicely done..

This is a good story about a rodeo hero who has grown old and is no longer able to perform but for those who knew him he is still a hero. I enjoyed reading this. Glory days can't last forever but until all they remember them are gone, they still remain heroes/
