a nice winter sonnet in traditional format. Well done. Here in Korea it has been cold but not too bad, most days in the low thirties (0 c ) dropping below freezing (-5 c) by sunset, but thankfully not too much snow yet.

Thanks for the review, Jake. Hope your winter continues on the mild side.

Thank you for sharing this very pleasing read to which I can definitely relate. The meter and rhyme are excellently crafted and I like the contrast of the cosy warmth and dreams with the chill of winter. Maybe it's a personal thing but I always like to see sonnets broken into three stanzas and a rhyming couplet to enable the story to evolve clearly. Also, I don't really get - (They're) snowdrifts.... when 'with' would add far more fluency. But a very worthy contender and I wish you luck, Paul. Debbie

Thanks for the review and suggestion, Debbie. I have made the change.

We don't get much snow here in Southern California, except in the foothills and mountains. When we do get some snow, the roads are choked with people going up to see the white stuff.

Thanks for the review Don and Vicki. I hope you did not have to deal with the wildfires.

I have rarely had the privilege of waking to a wonderland of white - only while I lived in France for a couple of years. Your sonnet is beautifully written. The present reality, the future dreams, and then the final couplet of acceptance. Best wishes for the contest.

Thanks, Wendy. I'll bet Sunny would like a romp in the snow.

Indeed, it is an amazing sight, going to bed seen ground; awakening in the morning to a heavy snow fall blanketing white over everything. I like this statement.

That scene is pretty until I have to dig out my snow shovel to clear walks. I do have a plow on my pickup to do the driveway.

My husband and I retired and moved from the cold, snowy winters of Pennsylvania, to the palm trees, beaches and sunshine of Florida. However, we're currently experiencing temperatures of low forties.
I enjoyed your rhythmic January thoughts of outside's bitter cold and inside's inviting warmth from a wood burning stove. Best wishes in the contest.

The low forties is quite cool for Florida, Lorraine. Here on the coast of Maine, it hasn't been that bad, but winter is probably just getting started.

I shivered as I read your very descriptive Sonnet. You really did capture the frigid scene with wonderful word choice.
Great rhyme and meter for this form. I wish you luck in the contest.

Thanks, Nancy. I see that you are from Los Angeles. I hope you have escaped an encounter with the wildfires. I can' believe what's happening out there.

Paul,
I love you beautiful sonnet and January outlook. It's been colder in Florida than I can remember, but not as bad as living in Upstate New York. It's a whole different world up there. I'm glad to be here in my old age.
Sending you my best today as always, and my good wishes for the upcoming contest.

I am not good at writing in meters and may not be able to give he poem a proper review, however, the poem has a good flow and great rhymes. It makes a great read. Well done, dear Paul, and good luck in the contest.

Thanks for the review, ESOTINE. January has not been too bad so far. Let's see what February has in store.

What a fun and highly evocative sonnet, and yep, I couldn't agree more! It is frigid here too -- so cold, in fact, I am going nowhere! I've even missed church a few times, and Bible study. (But then, I have this pain-in-the-neck cough hanging on...)
I especially loved your fresh approach with "The hungry wood stove sends us to the shed," For me, it's a poignant reminder of happy times...
Best of luck in the contest. This is wonderful, IMHO!

Thanks, Dawn. We traded in the "hungry wood stove" for an oil furnace quite a number of years ago. Glad to bring back happy memories of your past.
