This is a beautiful posing. I'm not sure if you literally mean 'the Psalms', but I love singing the different songs in our hymn books based on the Psalms. Your tanka is soothing and matched up with the perfect picture.

-Very nice image
and presentation, Yvette.
-Notes are appreciated.
-A very well written tanka
with good syllable count,
and vivid imagery.
-You have the haiku lines
in the opening, along with
a good pivot line.
-Excellent nature imagery, too,
as well as good concluding lines.
-Good luck in the contest!

Excellent poetry, Yvette. Imaginative and very well written, thank you. It sets the scene we are all familiar with (or should be) I wish you well with this entry. I am betting it is a winner! : ) Bob

Good presentation with this lovely tanka. Cicadas don't quieten down here with sundown. They get LOUDER! But I love to hear them. Good luck in the contest.

Yvette,
Hmmmm... Well, now you're playing directly to my heartstrings. Not only are you presenting us with a beautiful poem that just SINGS -- but you're posting it with an accompanying photo from ALABAMY! Hooooo-weee!
If that ain't the way to hit a homerun with the judges, I don't know one!!!
*smile* Good luck to ya, chickee!!! This is awesome!

Lovely images - both in the picture and in your poem. I thought cicadas sang all night - I think frogs do. Right now we have a plague of those HUGE moths that lay eggs which become caterpillar which eat trees. yuk.
but I digress. I do wonder what are the "amours psalms of youth"? Perhaps memories.
Nice poem

S'okay to digress... sometimes those critters make us crazy enough that digression is necessary - LOL! ;) :) And I think I'll let you keep wondering on the 'psalms' -- wink, wink! ;) ;) Thanx for the review, Gail and have a great rest of the weekend! ;) ;) Yvette

This is a tanka in the classic tradition. I love the emphasis on MOOD with that cicada chorus and the silence of sundown, all reminding one of his youth. Rod

So, sometimes the blonde gets traditional, Rod...mark the day, though, cuz it's not very often...LOL!! ;) :) This was one of my 'front porch compositions' as the evening sun sunk behind the hills... :) ;) Thanx for the review and have a wonderful remainder of the weekend! ;) ;) Yvette

Yum, what a lot of consonance this poem has, with "chorus," "endless," "silence," "amorous," and "breathless." And of course there is alliteration with "sings," "summer," "silence," and "sundown." I thought "psalms" could be included in there, although I was thinking "songs" sounded more likely, unless you wanted to say there was definitely a religious or spiritual overtone to it. Good luck in contest.

I enjoyed reading your tanka today. I love your font colors as always. I thought the cicadas got louder when the sun goes down? I can hear them just thinking about them. Best wishes in the contest. Your tanka gave me a peaceful easy feeling.
