Very funny Sally. I was all geared up for war. I could almost see the cannonballs flying trough the air. You certainly said a lot in seventy-five words. Best wishes in the contest.
Blessings,
Elaine

Hi Sal :)
It sounds like one heck of an adventurous day! Thank goodness for the kool-aid, oreos and bologna sandwiches providing much needed sustenance! It's hard work being an imaginative kid ;)
Good luck in the contest.
Best wishes as always, Debra :) x

Thank you so much, dear Debra. I had to stop and have a little fun with this for the contest. I just learned something about the word count, the wordprocessor on basic editor does not count accurately. That is good to know since this is a tight criteria for this contest. I appreciate as always your kind review of my work. Always my best to you and yours, Sally xo

I love this, Sally!! What a fun way to end this riveting short story. Your build up has all of the necessary points to make us think it is a real war. Very well done.

Thank you so much Melissa. I?m so glad you were able to enjoy this. The short works for a lot of fun. You should try one sometime! I tried poetry once...and look what happened!

In this brief story you have written about my own childhood! I lived next door to 5 boys and we had marvellously battle-scarred pitched battles. Isn't 'hellacious' a wonderful word; it sounds utterly appropriate. Bring on the bologna sandwiches!

It does sound like we had similar growing up experiences and that we are around the same age. I was the oldest girl and always voted to go fetch the food. I especially loved fried bologna sandwiches which was a little bit tastier than the plain. It is a southern culinary treat from which I have never recovered. I appreciate the excellent review and insightful personal comments. I?m so glad you enjoyed this. Always so best to you and yours, Sally xo

Hi there,
You may want to recheck your word counter. There's only 65 words in this. Counted by hand and MSword. The counter on site is wildly inaccurate. Even the site advise not to use it.
It's a nice little piece but needs more to meet the criteria.

Thank you, I used the Basic Editor word count and it displayed 75. Something I had rechecked by my sighted copy editor. When paragraphed it increased the word count by adding characters for some reason. I will contact FS about it because it is stated not to rely on a manual count but to use the provided word processor. Thanks for the heads up. Sal :+)

I contacted Tom and said what you said. I now have 75 words according to my new count. Thanks again. This needs to be easier, especially for the sight impaired! Sal :+)

This made me laugh out loud -- the seriousness of the setup, which are indeed serious when kids pretend. A clever response to the prompt and well written.

I played war with pine cones, snowballs, mud balls, and even aghast, B.B. Guns. With all except the snowball you could only aim below the waist. The smallest boy or the tom-boy girl was most often designated to get the sandwiches and drinks. Love your tale and the memories.

Well done withing the 75 word limit. Your opening is strong and immediately leads the reader in the wrong (or right) direction. Best of luck in the contest with this worthy entry

A very well-written seventy five word flash fiction. Those were the days we as children could play from sunrise to sunset without worries of someone lurking to steal one of us.

Hooray for Sissy who saved the day! :) Loved this one, Lady S -- reminds us in your unique style that life is not always as intense as it may seem at first glance! ;) ;) Thank you for sharing, Beautiful Friend, and best of luck in the contest! ;) Yvette
