This was a lovely trip to the West, Caroline, the history and climate and sheer beauty of Arizona, sounds a wonderful place to move to. Are you going to live there permanently?
I wish you the very best in your move. :) Sandra xsx

Larry's mother, son and 2 granddaughters still live in Phoenix, AZ. We travel there 2 or 3 times a year. It is a gorgeous place to visit. I don't want to move there permanently.
Thank you so much Sandra for this fine review. :-) Carolyn

excellent use of enjambment to keep flow of thought from line to line
excellent alliteration in various lines in phrases like sluggish sound
and met its mark
beautiful descriptive detail of setting with good appeal to a variety of senses
desert and it's charm - drop the apostrophe
well-balanced - add the hyphen

the southwestern states are so beautiful. I enjoyed the poem and I am sure you all will enjoy Arizona. I hope to visit some of my 13 remaining states this year, in my quest to see all 50 states. Bless you for taking us along for the view.

Thank you V. I am so happy you enjoyed this poem. It is far more difficult for me to write unrhymed poetry than it is to rhyme.
Hope you are feeling better,
Love, Carolyn

G'day Carolyn, great work mate. This well written piece just took me on a journey with you through the west. It sounds great and it sounds a lot warmer than all these winter poems I have read lately. I enjoyed this and the picture is awesome also. Enjoy your trip. Cheers Fez

I am seeking a bit warmer climate for sure. My mother-in-law, son and 2 granddaughters live there. Hopefully it will be hot! I am ready for a short change. We have ice in our area today.
Thank you Fez for reading and reviewing, so glad you liked it.:-) Carolyn

Hi Carolyn,
This is a very nice poem that held my interest. I love the picture you took last August that you used with this poem. How wonderful that your hubby and you are able to get out of the cold and enjoy the warmth of Arizona instead. Have a great time, My friend.

Thanks Kat,
Yes we are heading for warmer weather, to see his mom... However, we go through lots of high plains and mountains to get there so we may run into more snow. If so we will check in and hibernate a few days. LOL
So glad you enjoyed this one.
LOve, Carolyn

I hope you have fun on your trip and won't run into more snow.

It's obvious from your poem/prose work you love the west, the passion is obvious in each syllable, such a lovely work, drear friend, it reads like a travelogue, well done, articulately declared, wonderful composed, I can't remember reading anything close to this, love in Christ to you and Larry, blessings, well done, Roy.

Thank you so very, very much Roy. I almost posted it as a short story but had already started in poem form. I am so delighted that you liked it.
Have a great Sunday, Larry preaches tomorrow so we have a busy day ahead of us, then we leave early 1/13...
Love to you and E. :-) Carolyn

Hey, Carolyn,
This is great! (*<*)
What interstate were you on in your notes? Where did you have the Indian tacos? I've lived in a few places in northern and northwest AZ. From Cottonwood, Page, Flagstaff, to Lake Havasu.
You describe the dessert very well. The red rock around Sedona is breathtaking. Here in Lake Havasu, it is very flat. In the distance there are mountains.
Cheers & Blessings

Hi there Jax, Thanks for your comments.
this picture was taken off the main highways. We headed up through northern NM into Colorado after leaving AZ in August. .. when we come out we take 44 from St Louis area, to 40 then go through Holbrooke up through Peyton.. and in that way as Mom is in Chandler. We have gone through Flagstaff several times as well. We kind of meander, especially on our way back home. Ya just never know pardner where we may hang our hat...
You are right on the California border are you not?
Larry lived in California, before I met him, for over 30 years.
Maybe someday...at least we can dare to dream...:-) Carolyn

Have a fun, safe trip. (*<*)
Yes, A fifteen minute ride across the lake will put us in CA.
I miss, miss, miss living in Flagstaff.
