Your author notes are just as gripping and enthralling as that compelling poem. If I had not read your notes first, I would have thought it was the fight of all fights, or Armageddon. The description and imagery are chillingly believable. I like your use of "undead" because it raises the words used to another level - such as that which is yet to be. You've employed alliteration in such a way as to enhance this piece - "blazing boisterous bellow," or "cadaverous crew." This is a very gory, yet enjoyable. read! Nicely done!

The writing as always is almost without peer on this site. You might have a couple rivals. But, one hand would cover them. Just endless inventiveness in line after line. Really amazing. Then add everything else and I almost feel guilty for not paying admission. The wonderful history in your notes. Always a joy. Thank you very much. mike

Thanks very much, Mike, I'm very honored that you feel that way! I've never considered myself a poet, not really. Prose is more my game. That probably explains why most of my poems read like a story, tell a tale.

Thanks again for the wonderful review...

solid rhyme couplets including proximate rhyming like hordes/shores
mist-swept shores - I added the hyphen
good assonance in tide was high
excellent alliteration in phrases like cadaverous crews and in belched blazing...
vivid detail that certainly creates an eerie atmosphere
a compellingly dramatic story :-) Brooke

Thank you so much for taking a gander at this before it drops off of the face of the earth, Brooke. Whoops...there it goes! (LOL)...

You told your tale excellently in a well written poetic verve. I liked the imagery you used to ignite the mind pictures while reading this poetic story. This was an excellent piece of poetic art to have read and responded to... John

Shades of "Lord of the Rings" in mightiness here Dean - but SOOOO difficult to read the print ... the italics are sometimes quite blurry (hopefully it's not just my eyes). Great choice of noble words my friend! Some attention to hyphenation here & there? eg mist-swept.
Apostrophe's - ship cannon's muzzle (but hard to SEE more!) Bumpy rhythm but would work as a performance piece of course. What a stirring tale of 'olde'!!!

Many thanks, Sharyn! I appreciate all of the great feedback. I have seen just two or three make remarks made about the font. My eyes are horrible, and I always use that as a gauge as to whether or not my readers will be able to see it. Perhaps my eyes aren't as bad as I thought, LOL...

I took a few liberties in punctuation, simply to follow the 'Old-World' style of writing I was attempting to incorporate. I'm happy to know that you didn't feel it was too much of a distraction.

Thanks again for your fantastic review and comments!

I'm not even sure why I review your work. I believe reading it is enough. Just take a 6 from me every time you write. I have nothing to say, but bravo. You never cease to amaze. Your poems are epic stories. What else can I possibly say? Later.

I truly appreciate all of the wonderful support you've shown me concerning this 'pictapoem' format. It has been quite encouraging!

Hello, Poet

I enjoyed reading your poem this morning. You have
used good alliteration in places and the end rhymes work
well. The theme of the poem is well developed. And
the poem was interesting as were your author notes.

This is just a personal preference, and not something I'm
rating you on in this review, but I must admit I did find the
sound effects and so much appended graphics distracting.

A good read. Thanks for sharing.

    Thanks Ray, I appreciate that.

I get a lot about that, concerning the graphics, sound FX and such. However, this adheres to a specific format I've created, called a 'pictapoem' (please see ~There is a Place~ in my portfolio for description, no review necessary, the description is in the author's notes...Thanks!http://fanstory.com/displaystory.jsp?hd=1&id=640723) which is intended to be not just a poem, per say, but an overall sensory experience. Simply trying to think outside that proverbial box a bit, my friend.

Once again in true Kuch style, you have met the call to create something wonderful. It simply is hard to touch it's so very good. The style of language and the story itself all beautifully told. The descriptive work alone is worth the six. I loved the whole experience.

absolutely fabulous. This is a fascinating and haunting read. I really enjoyed the old-style format-"as fire from yon ship cannon muzzles" This style was maintained throughout the poem.
the language is simply wonderful. "mottled undead hordes...gathered on heir mist swept eastern shores." here you have set the place in context of the battle.
"set silken sails ..."
marvelous alliterations "belched blazing boisterous bellows"

the music really did justice to this read.
