something at the time forbidden by girls.[to girls]
Interesting, Sasha. On a different tack altogether, this time! So pleased you have found someone affordable who can help you to learn and do justice to your good friends' language. Pat. xxx

I thoroughly enjoyed this terrific piece of writing. Really interesting, and how wonderful that you have been able to take so much out of your Spanish class on top of the language itself.
Your lady sounds a truly inspirational person. No wonder you were prompted to write the essay. Perhaps the bit that amazed me most was that she was teaching latin at the age of 13!
The poem is indeed beautiful. You should be very proud of all the work you and your teacher put into it.
The only things I noticed to point out were a couple of tiny nits:
This was a very difficult assignment because I have enough difficulty with poems written in English(,) let alone in a foreign language. I experienced great difficulty in translating this poem and after many.. Two "difficult"s rather close.
yet(,) even had she desired to marry(,) she
A real pleasure to read and review.

Amiga Sasha,
This paper is OUTSTANDING!
I am sad because I do not have more stars available and you deserve all.
- Your great translation after a fine research work,
- The magic you are creating discovering Sor Juana to almost all your american friends and colleagues at FS,
- Your lucky to have such a great English teacher,
- Your incredible energy to keep learning spanish seriously,
- My grateful thanks for sharing the beauties and values of my country, mainly now that our public image has been so damaged.
- My satisfaction for be lucky enough to meet you here at FS
All of the above and more, are the feelings that boil into my head and soul after reading your poem.
FELICIDADES Y GRACIAS

I find myself admiring three persons this time: 1] Sor (Sister) Juana Inez de la Cruz who is indeed so admirable; 2) your Spanish language teacher Jorge who so marvelously teaches you Spanish; and 3) my friend Sasha who is a brilliant student. (I bet you get an A from your teacher. I would give you an A plus if I could...)

I like this entry and I think it is a great tribute to the poets you have listed. I can also see why her work would have touched you.

What a wonderful story. Isn't it ironic that women never seem to reach what men consider their level, but in most ways they far supercede them. great job.

Thank you for the wonderful 6 stars. I am thrilled you felt this deserved it.

It is a shame that Sor Juana only chose was to marry or join a convent. These days women have so many more choices, but they don't take advantage of them.

I agree. Being illegitimate made marriage pretty much an impossibility back then so joining a convent was all that was left if she wanted an education. I am pleased you liked this one.

I think this is exceptional! I stay mostly in the poetry section, but sense this was about a poet, I read it. I must say I was surprised and pleased. This was both an intresting and informative read. My hat is off to you! Very enjoyable and well done. Pearl

attack by the church, admonishing her - add comma
Although being eulogized by many - sounds stronger to me if you just say, Although eulogized by many
I love you, Valerie - and yes, this is one helluva poem.
Your essay is well written, and your lady poet is remarkable - thank you for introducing me to her :-) Brooke

With a teacher like Jorge, there just might be hope for me yet. This was terribly hard for me to translate but in the end I was overwhelmed by its power. Now I really have to learn Spanish so I can read all her other writings. I am thrilled you liked it. Thanks for catching the spags too.
