Cathy held out her hand in the direction of Rudy's voice. this is the way. In movies, the blind person waves the hand around until some one catcthes it. Neat little touch.

"You must have been scared to death." (I can't see Cathy accepting this comment after ten years of blindness and independent. (maybe-That must have been a frigthening experiece.)
Gayle this is a terrific chapter. I'm taking advantage of our friendship to offer a couple of suggestion. You did an excellent job.

I'm a wiz at the barbeque grill and use a microwave like a pro. I have all the cooking gadgets. George Foreman has a separate wing in the kitchen." [here is a good place for some humor. "I can boil water without burning it"]

If you get a chance, google the seal's buddy system. Rudy and Cathy can have a lot of fun using it.

The buddy system is simply being their to help when needed. No Seal is left behind. All for one and one for all is simple way to looke at it.

I am glad I got to this story close to the beginning. I find your use of imagery is stunning. I could not find one instance where you told anything, instead you showed.

As far as the chapter goes, while there was no action, I believe you did a great job with the characters by using dialogue to endear them to the reader. I look forward to reading more.

I can see the romance beginning already. It is obvious that they are each attracted to the other. Poor old Nathan is going to have a pretty rough time dealing with an ex seal. Very well done.

Not to mention ... well, y'know! And yes, I was trying to come up with something very poignant to do in the book, like the way you want life to turn out rather than how it often does ... without getting all maudlin or overly sentimental. I think they'll be great together, especially as more of Rudy's past comes to light!
