I'm sure it was lots of fun driving at ten years of age. And your sisters trying to get you into trouble, lost out there. That was naughty of you! LOL. It was a shame the you didn't get to play the position you wanted, but 6'2 is a good height! I enjoyed this little snippit from your childhood, Harry. Well done. Sandra xxx

Thank you again, Sandra. I truly appreciate that kind words and review as well. Yes, it was fun driving at 10. I have never met anyone today who can say that, but I am sure there were others.

I enjoyed this story a lot. My, but you were adventurous at a young age. I was surprised at driving at 10, but I remembered a friend from Idaho who said what you did. He learned at eleven. I think this is well-written. I can relate to playing the center position just because you're tall enough. This was an excellent length for this type of story. Very well done.

Hi Harry,
This was a fun story to read. At least you were tall enough to play. My husband was only about 5'8" in high school and couldn't make the basketball team. But he still likes to play one-on-one.

well, you got to do the two things you loved most. Can't beat that.
Now you're writing, and got recognized. very good.
Here's a thought to try or not, - if you had a funny experience with either driving or during a basketball game, & you added it at the end of your story, to leave the reader with a laugh? What do you think? Just a thought.

I think you are right Katharine. I thought about that but could not come up with anything. I am going to have to think about that...Thank you!
-
you're welcome. You know you can fudge a little bit and think up something and make it fiction. :)
-
Lol! Yes, I know. I just wanted it to be the truth on this one.
-
truth is good :)
-
Yes it is!

You did a great job giving us a snippet of your many childhood experiences in writing. You made it easy to envision you driving around a parking lot with three screaming girls in the back seat. I understand not being tall enough for something you wanted to do.
When I was in high school, a modeling agency came to our school looking for teen models. I applied, and was told that at 5'4" I was too short. You had to be 5'7" or more.
I enjoyed your story.

Oh, that is so wrong just because you were short. They should look at other things too - like good looks! Thank you for your review. I really appreciate it!

Harry, a wonderful story that I can also relate partially to it. No I did not drive a car at ten years of age. That wasn't done here in New Jersey (I was 10 in 1964).
But I can relate to the passion of playing basketball at the gym, at the park and on the high school team. I wasn't a starter but got minutes in all the games.
Fun post. Thanks for sharing and conjuring up the memories.

Hi Harry,
A wonderful story about two of your great passions as a young man. I spent my high school years at Perry Meridian High School in Indpls. I completely understand the Hoosier Mania for basketball. Being from Texas, it took me awhile to get that playing an indoor sport, like basketball, we much more palatable than football, which was done outside in the bitter cold. I quickly became a fan.
You did a great job of relaying your life and times in Indiana as a young man,
Take care,
Rhonda

Well, thank you again Rhonda. I truly appreciate the review! Yes, basketball was king in Indiana. And yes, Texas is surely football!

Hehe, we do pick our sports!! I was disappointed when I returned to Texas and have no fast-paced games to return to. Oh well, we have Luka and the Mavericks now!!

Keep it up. Good work.
All the 'moms that follow should be capitalized because you are using it in place of a name.
while mom shopped.
And as soon as mom went
going to tell mom I had driven the car.
in the same spot mom had left it
So, mom just ignored the noise.
Best wishes.

So, this is a true story? Driving at ten! Wow! I guess rural America would be a lot different than a busy city. It's too bad you didn't get to be a professional basketball player. But it sounds like you still made your mark in high school. Thanks for sharing a bit of nostalgia. Life different in the 60's and 70's.

Thank you so much June. Yes, life was different in the country than it would have been in the city. My parents would not have let me drive there I am sure. Thank you for your kind words and review. I truly appreciate that!

What a great story. You really had me laughing at particularly while telling the car part. Oh how times have changed!
Of course you were allowed drived the car at 10 why not lol! And the part where the siblings would tell and you got away with mischeif, you were definately Mama's boy that couldn't do wrong. I had an older brother and younger sister, to this day my Mother always thinks the sun shines out the.... you know what I mean. Well done I enjoyed you trip down memory lane, you told the story very well.
Best Wishes
