Many years back I read an article In Reader's Digest about parenting problems .The wriiter was a psychologist . He noted that many parents ,during counselling sessions sheepishly admitted that they had given their parents a hard time ..This will go on... in every generation ,I suppose..
But you were a supportive mother, many mothers would have been harsher..

I was a good kid growing up, so I question that logic. Thank you for the kind review.

High intelligence plus ADHD is difficult - one of my grandchildren is in that category. Jeff seems to have turned out well, and now understands the difficulties of parenting! Lol. Great story.

Im assumming DODDS is
Department of Defense Dependents Schools?
Sweet nonfiction about your son Jeff. For me it was my oldest daughter. She is also very intelligent, a bit bipolar, and ADHD.
Children can be challenging at times. Especially teenagers.
Well done, my friend.
Happy Thanksgiving!
His oldest son, Geoffrey will (make be) a great grandma the first of this April.

Yes, you're correct about DODDS. Yes, teenagers can be difficult. I appreciate the kind review.

It's incredible that at the school he was at parent communication wasn't a priority. It does sound as though things did get better with Jeff as he grew older. I think we all learn from our mistakes the older we get. A well written piece, Barbara, I enjoyed reading it.

This is my favorite story so far. I think because you enjoyed him a bit more. My brainy brain is like Jeff's but, because of my illnesses I was restricted a lot of the time. I learned to write and dream. My mom understood me, her mom understood me. I think they both are smarty smarts too. Good writing. loved kit. Karen

You son was a bit of a rebel in his youth, but everything turned out okay in the end as your parenting skills pulled through and your parents helped out. I enjoyed reading about your life Barbara and you are strong and determined woman who took action when it was needed.
Just one adjustment to this line:
Geoffrey will make (me) a great grandma the first of this April.
Congratulations on becoming a Grandma too.
A fine post, love Dolly x x x

Sounds like you were the parent-in-chief. It must have been a burden to you, especially with a son like Jeff. He really wanted to test the limits. You did a great job with him, apparently, and can have a sense of humor about some of the things he did that tried your patience. This is interesting. It shows how children can be so different. You show what it was like to be the one in charge while your husband was serving in the military. judi

My oldest son was like Jeff. After he got out of high school and had failed in his college attempt, he worked for me. We ran the company's ice business for over twenty years. He now has his own business and has three sons who are now great men.

I'm most a fiction guy, and very seldom ever even read true life stories. But I'm certainly enjoying yours, and Jeff's is best for me so far. Thanks for sharing.

Your true story got me to go down on my knee's and thank the Lord that I had daughters. Although, I have heard some horror stories about girls going astray.

I appreciate the kind review. I think if you get a truly difficult daughter, they're worse than any boy thought of being. I taught first grade for 26 years. My little boys were interesting to say the least, and for the most part my little girls were adorable, but when I got a difficult girl, she made the boys look like angels.
