A child's poem. Is it to be written as a child or about a child. I couldn't be sure which, but you wrote a brilliant piece of poetry, anyhow ... now explain please what did you mean by "The first height mark?"

Thanks so much for your feedback, Tom! That's meant to describe the height chart marked on the wall. I can see how that may be unclear, so I will edit. Thank you so much.

Oh, this was adorable, and I only wish I had a six for it.
It is so touching how little Molly tried to pack all that stuff, only to learn that some things, like doors, won't fit in a suitcase (smile).

Hi Jessica,
This is a simple poem about how hard it is to leave all the memories of a house when you move for both children and parents. It also shows how you can grow to love the new home when you can do some of the things you did at the old home. It also shows how easily children adapt.
Good luck in the contest.
Keep writing and stay healthy.
Have a great week.

Exactly the poem I wish I'd had when I moved my 8 and 6 year-old children. A tug on the heartstrings as Molly keeps wanting to move things in her home that hold special sentimental value but must stay behind. I have two tweaks that might assist the reader in holding the the rhythm - in second line "ev'ry" instead of "every", and in sixth stanza "fav'rite" instead of "favorite".

Hello there! This is so adorable! Well written. I love the picture too. It's not easy for a child to understand moving from a home they have always known and living somewhere new. Thank you for sharing!

Truly an enjoyable read! Anyone who has moved numerous times (adults and especially a child) can identify with Molly. What a gifted way to capture the apprehension and anxiety that one experiences when they have to leave behind what they have grown to love.

Thank you for sharing this writing prompt with us. I know I'm a fan, but this didn't come into my PM box. I'm glad I found it. I understand the problems with moving. We were military for 23 years, many moves. When my parents sold the house my brother and I grew up in, dad took the door jamb that he had marked out height on as we grew. Mom still has it.

Barbara, thank you so much. I'm moved by what you shared; that's beautiful. Thank you for your review. I'm sorry it didn't show up in your messages; I think it's probably because it was in the contest at the time. I appreciate your feedback and kind words, as always.

You've realistically captured the distress at moving through a child's viewpoint about the special things that make a house a home. Then it is reassuring for Molly to have the excitement of making memories and the discovery of new things. Your poem develops well through these emotions.

This excellent story should be a book. While more illustration would be nice. It is not totally necessary. I enjoyed reading this so much, I absolutely wish I had written it. Increase the font size and submit this as a children's book as soon as possible. Trust me, I do believe it will sell.

a-h-h this is simply a gem - told from the perspective of a child moving to a new home with some regret but discovering that life can be just as exciting in a new home - significant childhood moments - shared with a loving family stress can be eased or eliminated
